Cy-Fair ISD Superintendent’s Fun Run Raises $80,000 for Cy-Fair Educational Foundation

April 04 2025

Thousands of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD students, staff, families, and community members gathered at the Berry Center and Cy-Fair FCU Stadium on March 29, 2025, for the 11th Annual Superintendent’s Fun Run—a community-focused fundraiser that raised $80,000 for the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation (CFEF).

The annual event, created in 2014 by then-superintendent Dr. Mark Henry, was designed to promote health, wellness, and education, while supporting scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors in the district. Over the past decade, the Fun Run has grown into one of the largest community events in the region, bringing together education, family, and philanthropy in a single, high-energy day.

“Saturday’s Fun Run was an amazing event,” said Dr. Douglas Killian, current CFISD Superintendent of Schools. “Thanks to all the participants, volunteers, donors, and kids, we were able to raise $80,000 towards scholarships for our students. I am so thankful to be involved in such an awesome community event with such great support for our kids.”

The 2025 event featured both a 5K timed run and a 1-mile family walk, with nearly 6,500 registered participants. The scenic 5K course took runners through Towne Lake and Lone Star College–CyFair, while the 1-mile route led families through Cy-Fair FCU Stadium, complete with high school inflatable tunnels, cheer teams, and spirit groups lining the walkways. An additional 3,000 people supported the cause by purchasing “sleep-in” passes, which served as donations without requiring race participation.

A True Community Celebration

Throughout the day, guests enjoyed a wide range of family-friendly activities, including student performances, sponsor booths, food trucks, and a children’s play area. More than 778 CFISD students volunteered to help with operations and logistics, while over 20 school and community performance groups entertained crowds with choir, dance, and cheer routines.

The fundraiser was underwritten by Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, a long-standing partner of the district.

“Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital is proud to be the title sponsor of the CFISD Superintendent’s Fun Run, an event that brings our community together in support of health, wellness, and education,” said Jerry Ashworth, CEO of Memorial Hermann Cypress. “Seeing thousands of participants come together for a great cause is truly inspiring. The success of this event reflects the strength and unity of our community.”

Other key sponsors included Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, Lone Star College–CyFair, and Nelson Family Orthodontics in Cypress, among many others. Dozens of local vendors participated, offering resources, giveaways, and interactive activities for families.

Supporting Student Scholarships in Cy-Fair ISD

Funds raised from the event directly benefit the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation, which provides scholarships to deserving CFISD seniors and supports teacher grants that enhance learning in the classroom. Since its inception in 1970, the CFEF has awarded millions in scholarships to local students pursuing higher education.

The Superintendent’s Fun Run aligns with community goals of wellness, civic engagement, and education, and it has become an important annual touchpoint for stakeholders across the district.
