Cy-Fair ISD Students Recognized in Annual Superintendent Holiday Card Contest

November 19 2024

Cy-Fair ISD (CFISD) recently announced the winners of its annual Superintendent Holiday Card Contest, recognizing students from Keith Elementary School, Sprague Middle School, and Cypress Park High School for their outstanding artwork. A total of 158 entries from students across all grade levels were submitted for the contest, with winners selected in each grade and a "Best in Show" chosen for elementary, middle, and high school categories.

Dr. Doug Killian, CFISD superintendent, along with associate superintendents, served as judges for the contest. They selected first-, second-, and third-place winners for each grade level and ultimately chose the Best in Show winner from the first-place winners. Finley Frazier, a fourth-grade student from Keith Elementary, took home the Elementary Best in Show award for her piece titled "The Best Surprise." The Middle School Best in Show went to Jennin Covanes, an eighth-grader from Sprague Middle School, for her artwork "A Winter Night." Sophia Parrales, a sophomore from Cypress Park High School, earned the High School Best in Show for her piece "Childhood Holidays."

Lee Carrier, CFISD's visual arts coordinator, expressed pride in the participation of the district’s art programs, noting that nearly every school submitted entries to the contest. “This year’s entries showcased an impressive range of creativity, mediums, and techniques across all grade levels,” Carrier said. “It’s truly a testament to the hard work of our art teachers and students."

In addition to the Best in Show winners, a number of students earned recognition within their grade level categories. For instance, in elementary school, Ruby Gutierrez, a fifth-grade student from Ault Elementary, earned first place for her piece "Winter Bliss," while Mila Gonzalez from Yeager Elementary took first in kindergarten for her artwork titled "Santa is Here!" Similarly, in middle school, Harleen Sembhi from Watkins Middle School earned first place in the seventh grade for her artwork "The Holiday Season Arrived." High school winners included Aylin Sifuentes Torres, a junior at Cypress Park, who claimed first place for "Winter's Embrace."
