Cy-Fair ISD Livestock Show and Sale Raises Over $625,000 for Student Projects
The 31st Annual Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD) Livestock Show and Sale generated more than $625,000 to support student projects, reinforcing the community’s commitment to agricultural education and youth development. Held from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at the CFISD Exhibit Center, the event brought together students, educators, and supporters to celebrate the district’s longstanding agriculture program.
The premium sale (live auction) raised $430,900, while the freezer sale, which includes animals that did not qualify for the live auction, brought in $153,752. Additionally, the agriculture mechanics and horticulture silent auction contributed $33,157.50, and $7,591.50 was awarded through royalty scholarships and cash prizes. The final total will increase as monetary donations and t-shirt sales continue to be counted.
The event was dedicated to Denise Kubecka, former director of career and technical education, in recognition of her years of service to CFISD and the Livestock Show and Sale. Kubecka was honored with a dedication banner and a commemorative buckle.
Mark Williams, director of career and technical education, praised the dedication of students and instructors. “I am incredibly proud of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD agriculture students who compete in this annual event. Their success is a testament to their dedication, commitment, and the passion of their agriculture science instructors. Our students, instructors, and agriculture program exemplify the incredible opportunities we provide,” Williams said.
Community Support and Student Success
The CFISD Livestock Show and Sale is not only a competition but also a platform for students to showcase their hard work in agriculture, animal husbandry, and mechanics. This year’s event featured strong participation from Future Farmers of America (FFA) students across multiple CFISD high schools, with numerous champions crowned in various categories.
Among the highlights was the Grand Champion steer, exhibited by MacKenzie Walcik of Cypress Ranch High School, which sold for $50,000 to Jarrar & Company Inc. and Lone Star Chevrolet/Houston Area Chevrolet. Other top sales included Hailey Poulson’s Grand Champion swine, which sold for $20,000, and Luke O’Rear’s Grand Champion broilers, purchased for $11,000.

Extending the Impact Beyond the Show
The CFISD Livestock Show not only provides financial support for students’ future educational and agricultural endeavors but also gives back to the community in a meaningful way. The John Fox Chamber Herd, an initiative led by the Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce, raised over $30,000 to purchase several student-raised animals. The meat from these animals will be processed and donated to local nonprofits, helping to feed families in need.. In previous years, organizations that benefitted from this initiative included Cy-Fair Helping Hands, Cypress Assistance Ministries, and the Boys and Girls Club.
The livestock sale remains a cornerstone event for CFISD, helping students build value life skills alongside the support of local businesses and community organizations. With more than $625,000 raised this year, the event continues to provide invaluable support to young agriculturalists while strengthening the bond between education and the broader Cy-Fair community.
