Cy-Fair Helping Hands Gearing Up for Back to School Bash, Seeks Community Support for CFISD Students in Need

June 04 2024

Although summer has just begun, Cy-Fair Helping Hands (CFHH) is already ramping up for its annual Back to School Bash, a vital outreach initiative that equips economically disadvantaged students with the necessary school supplies they need for success.

CFHH is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 with the objective of aiding the homeless and hungry in Cy-Fair on their path to self-sufficiency. From its humble beginnings of one woman feeding the homeless from a truck, CFHH has expanded its initiatives significantly. Now, it houses a Community Food Pantry, offers Emergency Shelter, and provides various outreach programs, funded entirely by donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and organizations.

A significant component of their mission is helping children from families who struggle to afford essential school supplies and backpacks. During the last Back to School Bash in August 2023, nearly 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to students of Cy-Fair ISD. The backpacks and school supplies were donated by local churches, businesses, organizations and individuals who all answered the call to help every child in Cy-Fair ISD have a strong, successful start to the school year.

According to the District, 61.5% of its 118,732 students were economically disadvantaged in the previous 2023-2024 school year, illustrating the true need for support like the CFHH Back to School Bash. This year, as the need persists, CFHH is appealing once again for the community's assistance in preparation for the annual Back to School Bash set for Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Calvary Community Church from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Donations of new backpacks and school supplies can be dropped off at two locations: 9204 Emmott Road, Houston 77040, Monday – Thursday, between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM, and 12923 Enchanted Drive, Cypress 77429 at any time. The deadline for the delivery of supplies is Wednesday, July 31, 2024. To view the list of school supplies needed, click the button below.

For those who find online shopping more convenient, CFHH has set up "wish lists" on three retail platforms: Amazon, Wal-Mart, and Target.

Please note that registration for receiving school supplies has not yet begun. Updates regarding the commencement of registration for CFISD students in need will be posted on Facebook.
