Cy-Fair Fire Department Opens Registration for 2025 Kids Fire and Safety Camp
This summer, young residents of Cy-Fair have a unique opportunity to learn what it takes to be a real firefighter—while gaining critical life skills in a safe, exciting, and unforgettable environment. The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) has opened registration for its 2025 Kids Fire & Safety Camp, a five-day interactive program designed for children who have just completed 3rd or 4th grade.
Held at Cy-Fair Fire Station 9, located at 7188 Cherry Park Dr., Houston, TX 77095 near the Hearthstone and Copper Place Village neighborhoods, the camp will take place in two sessions:
-
Camp 1: June 9–12
-
Camp 2: July 7–11
Each camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., ending with a celebratory graduation ceremony where campers are recognized for their hard work and growth throughout the week.
Led by actual CFFD firefighters and EMS personnel, the camp immerses children in hands-on activities that mirror real-life emergency training. Campers will tour fire stations and equipment, participate in rappelling and fire extinguisher drills, practice first aid and CPR, and even meet a canine search and rescue team. They'll get to bring home their own first aid kits and create personalized home fire escape plans.

Each day focuses on a specific theme and set of skills, gradually building toward a final “graduation day” where kids showcase what they’ve learned.
-
Day 1: Fire 101 – Learn firefighter gear, tour the station, and "race the firefighter" in a fun team-building challenge.
-
Day 2: Rescue Drills – Try rappelling, handle fire extinguishers, and get hands-on with rescue tools.
-
Day 3: Life Flight & EMS – Explore a DPS helicopter up close and build a personal first aid kit.
-
Day 4: CPR & First Aid – Learn how to “bring HAL back to life,” and receive instruction in summer safety and basic CPR.
-
Day 5: Search & Rescue – Discover smoke alarm safety, create a home exit plan, and meet a working canine unit.
“This camp gives kids the chance to learn from our team while gaining real-world safety skills,” said Fire Chief Amy Ramon. “We want every camper to walk away with more confidence, a sense of teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for the importance of fire safety in their homes.”
Open only to children who reside in the Cy-Fair community, the camp accepts just 15 children per session, selected through a random drawing. While demand is high, every child who submits an entry will be notified by April 30 whether they’ve been selected. Interested families can register now at www.cyfairfd.org.

Chief Ramon added, “This isn’t just a summer camp—it’s a launchpad for building character, developing initiative, and introducing kids to the incredible work of first responders in their own neighborhood.”
Parents are asked to send their campers with a water bottle, towel, and a change of clothes—because when you’re training like a firefighter, there’s a good chance you’ll get wet.
With over 600 members and employees, 13 stations, and a 164-square-mile coverage area, the Cy-Fair Fire Department is one of the largest combination fire departments in the country. Beyond emergency response, the department is committed to education and outreach—especially when it comes to preparing the next generation with tools for life.
