Cy-Fair Community Rallies Around Local Firefighter with Powerful Benefit Concert for Reyes Family

January 13 2026

A powerful wave of music, generosity, and community spirit swept through Cypress over the weekend as locals turned out in force at The Barn for the Reyes Benefit Concert, held in support of JR Reyes—a firefighter with the Cy-Fair Fire Department—who is currently fighting stage 4 cancer.

Community Turns Out in Force for Reyes Benefit Concert

Held at The Barn in Cypress, the all-day event brought together a remarkable lineup of Texas country artists, including Brian Taylor and The High Society and Hill Country Revival, in a grassroots effort to raise funds for Reyes and his family. By night’s end, a rough count revealed that the benefit had raised an astonishing $30,910—an amount described by organizers as “life-changing money.”

“Still blown away by the turnout for the Reyes Benefit Concert,” said Brian Taylor in a public post. “It would not have been possible without every single person who showed up, supported, and made this night unforgettable. And to end the night with the one and only Hill Country Revival was the best way to close the benefit.”

Reyes, a dedicated member of the Cy-Fair Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 5248, received a stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis following surgery in May. Despite undergoing biweekly chemotherapy, the cancer has since progressed to stage 4. With Reyes unable to work and the financial pressures mounting, the Reyes family—Savannah, JR, Beckam, and Raelyn—have faced unimaginable challenges.

Concert, Raffles, and GoFundMe Fuel Fundraising Success

Community support for Reyes and his family has been unyielding. In addition to the concert, a GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $21,000 from over 150 donors. The event featured raffle prizes, 50/50 drawings, and a BBQ plate sale alongside the music—all with 100% of proceeds going directly to help the family with daily expenses and medical costs.

The afternoon kicked off with performances from Matt Sebastian Band, Adam Patrick, and Derek Flores with Ziggy Moonshine, setting the tone for a day of unity, compassion, and connection. Don Stalling, Jason Pritchard, and Chad Lyons also contributed memorable sets, leading into the evening’s high-energy headliners.

“Thank you everyone that came out to the Reyes Benefit Concert,” the Cy-Fair Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 5248 shared on social media. “The brotherhood and community support was amazing. We witnessed our community come together and make this event more than we ever imagined.”

Local 5248: On the Front Lines and in the Community

Organized in 2022, Local 5248 represents more than 100 emergency personnel including suppression, EMS, admin, and dispatchers. Their mission not only includes providing safety and protection through 9-1-1 emergency response, but also being active participants in community initiatives like this.

Partnering organizations and businesses including The Barn, Andy’s Bar & Grill Cypress TX, and We Got Your 6 TX Back the Badge were instrumental in making the benefit possible, further showcasing how local support continues to be the lifeblood of Cy-Fair’s resilience and care.

While a final total is still being calculated, the success of the event has highlighted a simple truth: when one of their own is in need, the Cy-Fair community shows up with open hearts, strong hands, and a resounding sense of unity.
