Costco Cypress Plans Major Parking Lot Expansion to Address Longstanding Congestion

July 08 2025

After years of weekend gridlock in the parking lot, the popular Costco Wholesale in Cypress is taking steps to fix one of its most frustrating customer complaints: not enough parking.

According to a recently filed permit with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Costco plans to add 107 new parking stalls at its Cypress location off U.S. Highway 290. The $2.1 million project, filed under the name Costco Wholesale #1208 Parking Addition, will clear an outlot to make way for the expanded lot. Construction is set to begin around mid-January 2026, and wrap up by mid-June 2026.

The project scope includes demolition, grading, concrete paving, curbing, site lighting, landscaping, and irrigation across a 66,735-square-foot area—an ambitious renovation that many local shoppers would say is long overdue.

A Store That’s Popular for a Reason

The Costco Cypress store, located at 26960 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77433, first opened its doors in July 2019 and quickly became a go-to for West Houston and Cypress-area families. With a gas station, tire center, food court, pharmacy, and optical department all on-site, it’s no surprise this location draws huge crowds—especially on weekends.

But with that popularity has come a persistent issue: parking congestion. From social media forums to online reviews, shoppers frequently voice frustration about the tight lot and difficulty navigating it during peak hours.

One reviewer put it bluntly: “Great store, parking always seems to be wild on the weekend.”

It’s a sentiment echoed across many Costco locations, where high traffic and limited parking often go hand in hand. But Cypress residents may now see some long-awaited relief on the horizon.

Parking Tips for Costco Cypress Shoppers

While construction won’t begin until early 2026, locals don’t have to wait for smoother shopping. Experts suggest a few smart strategies to avoid the worst of the weekend rush:

  • Visit during off-peak hours: Weekday afternoons (Tuesday through Thursday) tend to be less congested.
  • Skip weekends if possible: Saturdays and Sundays remain the busiest days.
  • Park farther out: Choosing a spot on the edges of the lot can save time and reduce door dings.

Once completed, the expanded lot is expected to significantly reduce wait times, improve traffic flow, and make the overall shopping experience more enjoyable for Costco’s loyal customer base in the Cypress area.
