Converse Public Library Honored with 2025 Achievement of Excellence Award for 7th Consecutive Year

January 30 2026

The Converse Public Library has once again distinguished itself as one of the leading libraries in Texas. The Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA) has awarded the library the 2025 Achievement of Library Excellence Award—an honor it has now received for an impressive seventh year in a row.

This prestigious recognition celebrates libraries that demonstrate outstanding service in multiple key areas including community outreach, lifelong learning, digital access, workforce development, and creative programming. Only a small fraction of public libraries in Texas receive this award annually, making Converse's continued success even more significant.

City officials and residents alike are celebrating the announcement as a testament to the library’s enduring commitment to meeting the needs of the Converse community and the greater Bexar County area.

A Hub for Learning, Growth, and Belonging

Located at 601 S. Seguin Road in Converse, the Converse Public Library was officially opened in 2017 and has since become a beloved cornerstone of the city’s cultural and educational landscape. The library is open Monday through Saturday and offers a wide variety of services that reflect the evolving needs of today’s residents—from toddlers to seniors.

Among its many features are:

  • A spacious children’s area for early literacy and family reading time
  • Free public Wi-Fi and computer access to promote digital inclusion
  • Career and job-search support services, including résumé assistance
  • Regular programs like storytimes, adult education classes, and teen workshops
  • A robust bilingual collection and Spanish-language programs
  • Outreach efforts that bring books and educational materials to underserved populations in Converse

The facility also includes comfortable study spaces, a community meeting room, and rotating art and cultural exhibits, making it not just a place for books—but a place for connection.

Recognized for Excellence in Service

According to the TMLDA, the Achievement of Library Excellence designation is awarded to libraries that demonstrate exceptional performance in at least 10 areas of service. The Converse Public Library stood out in categories such as:

  • Support for literacy and education across all age groups
  • Innovative community outreach and equitable access
  • Strong partnerships with local schools and organizations
  • Digital literacy and technology access programs
  • Comprehensive programming that engages and educates

A city announcement praised the staff for their work, stating, “A huge thank you to our incredible library staff for their tireless dedication, creativity, and commitment to welcoming everyone through the doors.”

A Community Resource with a Future Focus

As the City of Converse continues to grow, so too does the role of the public library. In a time when many communities face challenges related to digital access, literacy, and workforce readiness, the Converse Public Library has emerged as a model for how local libraries can adapt and thrive.

For San Antonio-area families looking for free, enriching activities, the Converse Public Library remains a go-to destination. Its continued recognition at the state level reaffirms its value—not just as a place to borrow books, but as a vital community resource that fosters learning, connection, and empowerment.

For hours, upcoming events, or more information, residents are encouraged to visit the library in person at 601 S Seguin Rd, Converse, TX 78109 or explore offerings online through the City of Converse website.
