Community Pride Shines at Governors Place 40th Annual Independence Day Celebration

July 16 2025

Editor's Note: The following message was written and submitted by Dave Gilkeson, Chair of the Governors Place Independence Day Celebration Committee.

Many thanks to all the folks that participated in our 40th Annual Independence Day Celebration at Governors Place.  In the shade of the tree, it wasn’t too bad – but still hot!  The gathering, parade and pool activities were some of the fond memories that we can all share.  Plus, we learned a lot about our Declaration of Independence signers.

We also had donations from several homeowners   Thank you to Chris and Erin Conti, Michael Fischer, Don Wolf, Gary Russell, Gary Harrington, Jan Surmacz, Jesse Garcia and Fowzia Malik.  And, of course, our Security Service Eagle Eyes, Fire Station HCESD #48 and the Scouts – four troops to boot!  The fire department led the parade – what a great parade it was!

If you would like to join the committee, please contact me.  Good ideas come from you - please share.

Remember to get out into the neighborhood for Neighbor Night Out and meet your neighbors!  This year Texas celebrates Neighbor Night out on Tuesday, October 7th.  We are planning to have the Clubhouse be a gathering spot.

Best,

Dave Gilkeson, Chair GP Independence Day Celebration
