Comal ISD Celebrates 38 Student Athletes Signing College Commitments, With Davenport High School Leading a Milestone Class

May 04 2026

For dozens of Comal ISD families, the spring signing season marked far more than a ceremonial moment at a table with hats and letters of intent. It represented years of early morning practices, long bus rides, summer training sessions and unwavering support from parents, coaches and teammates across one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas.

This spring, 38 Comal ISD student athletes officially signed letters of intent to continue competing at the collegiate level, highlighting the district’s expanding reputation for developing talent both on and off the field. Among the five comprehensive high schools represented, Davenport High School emerged with one of the district’s largest and most diverse signing classes, with 10 student athletes committing to programs across the country.

The signings also reflect a broader story unfolding across Comal County: as communities continue to grow, local schools are producing athletes capable of competing on national stages while strengthening hometown pride in the process.

Davenport High School Athletes Lead Diverse Signing Class

At Davenport High School, athletes representing football, soccer, volleyball, softball, swimming, baseball and dance all signed collegiate commitments, underscoring the breadth of the school’s athletic programs.

The Davenport High School signees include:

  • Caleb Bristow — swim — Oklahoma Christian University
  • Kaden Dohmen — football — Centenary College of Louisiana
  • Harper McQuade — softball — Howard Payne University
  • Miles Pappas — soccer — University of Chester UDA Soccer Academy
  • Sophia Plante — dance — Texas Christian University
  • Caden Scott — football — Midland University
  • Abby Symon — soccer — The University of Texas Permian Basin
  • Kannon Van Valkenburgh — baseball — Marian University Plymouth
  • Brody Vestal — football — Trinity University
  • Kamrynn Williams — volleyball — Xavier University of Louisiana

For a relatively young campus, the signing class represents another milestone in Davenport High School’s athletic development and the continued investment families and coaches have made in building competitive programs.

The variety of collegiate destinations — ranging from NCAA programs to international soccer opportunities and nationally recognized universities — also highlights how student athletes today are finding multiple pathways to continue their academic and athletic careers.

Comal ISD’s Growing Athletic Reputation

Across the district, student athletes signed in a wide range of sports including wrestling, soccer, volleyball, football, cheerleading, swimming, powerlifting, basketball, tennis, dance and track and field.

District leaders noted that the signing events represented the culmination of years of perseverance, discipline and sacrifice from students and their support systems.

Two athletes also earned appointments to military academies — an achievement regarded among the most competitive in the nation. Kahdyn Freeman of Pieper High School signed with the United States Naval Academy for track and field, while two-time state wrestling champion Bryce Palmer of Smithson Valley High School signed with the United States Air Force Academy for wrestling.

The accomplishments come as Comal ISD continues to experience rapid enrollment growth throughout New Braunfels, Bulverde, Spring Branch and surrounding Hill Country communities. Athletic success has increasingly become part of the district’s identity, helping connect campuses with residents and reinforcing community investment in local schools.

What These Signings Mean for the Community

In communities across Comal ISD, signing days have become more than athletic celebrations. They serve as visible reminders of how local schools are shaping opportunities for students while building pride among families and neighborhoods.

For younger athletes watching from the stands, these ceremonies often become proof that college athletics — and the educational opportunities tied to them — are attainable goals. For parents and residents, they reflect the strength of school programs supported through years of community investment.

As the district continues to expand, moments like these help reinforce the connection between schools and the communities they serve.

Comal ISD officials congratulated all 38 student athletes for reaching the next stage of their journeys through hard work, determination and perseverance.
