City of Houston to Donate 200 Free Air Conditioning Units to Aid Vulnerable Residents
In a concerted effort to aid vulnerable residents affected by recent weather conditions, the City of Houston is stepping in with a generous offer. Coming hot on the heals of the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl, which brought widespread and lengthy power outages across the Greater Houston Area, the city is set to donate 200 free air conditioning units to seniors, people with disabilities, and caregivers of disabled children residing in Harris County.
As locals are all too aware, Houston can experience some of the most blistering heat in the country, making living conditions unsafe without the relief provided by air conditioning. This necessity is compounded in the aftermath of a hurricane, with power outages making usual cooling methods impossible.
The Houston Health Department is handling the distribution of these portable air conditioner units. Applications for these life-saving devices can be made through a simple call to the Harris County Area Agency on Aging at 832-393-4301.
