City of Fulshear to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Harris Street Reconstruction Project

October 03 2024

The City of Fulshear is set to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Harris Street Reconstruction Capital Improvement Project, inviting community members to join in the festivities. The ceremony will take place on October 8, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., along Harris Street, behind Dozier’s BBQ & Meat Market.

The Harris Street Reconstruction project aims to enhance the roadway by developing a two-way curb and gutter system, complete with parallel on-street parking and sidewalks extending from FM 1093 to 3rd Street. Additionally, the project will introduce a pedestrian plaza between 3rd and 5th Streets, incorporating improvements highlighted in the Livable Centers Study and adopting the Council's Downtown Branding for Streetscapes within a 60-foot right-of-way.

During the August 20, 2024 City Council meeting, the council reviewed and unanimously approved the project, which had been readvertised on July 2, 2024. The city received five bids, with one deemed non-responsive. After discussions with the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) boards, the council considered several alternatives for enhancing the project, including street lighting within the pedestrian plaza and additional lighting options.

The construction is projected to be substantially completed within 270 calendar days from the notice to proceed, with a contract awarded to DG Medina Construction, LLC, for an amount of $3,749,795.03

Following the groundbreaking ceremony, attendees are invited to enjoy a celebratory dessert at Dozier’s, which reopened in late August, at 8222 FM359, Fulshear, TX 77441.
