City of Fulshear Announces First Class of Fulshear Academy for Civic Training and Service (F.A.C.T.S.)
The City of Fulshear has announced the launch of its inaugural Fulshear Academy for Civic Training and Service (F.A.C.T.S.) program, offering residents a unique opportunity to engage with local government and become active participants in shaping the future of their community. Beginning in January 2025, the seven-week class is designed to educate and empower residents by providing a comprehensive understanding of city operations, services, and opportunities for civic involvement.
F.A.C.T.S. is set to run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Monday between January 20 and March 3, with a graduation ceremony taking place during the March City Council meeting. The program is open to all Fulshear residents, as well as individuals from surrounding areas, aged 16 and up. While the program is free, participants must attend at least five of the seven sessions to receive a Certificate of Completion. Applications are now being accepted, and with class size limited, residents are encouraged to apply early to secure their spot.
A Comprehensive Civic Education Program
The F.A.C.T.S. program is designed to give participants a broad understanding of Fulshear’s city government and the vital services it provides. Each session will feature guest speakers, group discussions, hands-on activities, and field trips that focus on various aspects of city operations. Participants will have the chance to interact with City Council members, city staff, local business leaders, and other community stakeholders.
“The goal of F.A.C.T.S. is to cultivate informed residents who are passionate about civic engagement and community leadership,” said a City of Fulshear spokesperson. “By participating in this program, residents will not only learn about how local government works but also gain valuable skills that will help them serve as community leaders, whether on local boards, commissions, or in their neighborhoods.”
Sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including city finances, public safety, infrastructure, and economic development. Participants will learn about how decisions are made in Fulshear and how they can play a role in future planning and growth. Topics also include the importance of city planning and technology in local governance, as well as the operations of public safety and utilities.
