Cinco Ranch High School FFA Student Named Ford Leadership Scholar

September 23 2024

Sydney Herring, a student at Cinco Ranch High School and president of the school's FFA chapter, has earned distinction as one of just ten students nationwide selected as a Ford Leadership Scholar for the 2024 cohort. This prestigious recognition is a part of the FFA Ford Leadership Scholars program, an initiative that partners the Texas FFA Foundation and Texas Ford Dealers to cultivate outstanding leadership in promising students.

"I am so happy to be one of just ten students chosen for this year’s cohort for the leadership program,” Sydney expressed. "There are more than 177,000 members in the Texas FFA and so I am especially honored to be chosen.”

The Ford Leadership Scholars program is designed with three primary objectives. It seeks to identify students with remarkable leadership qualities at the chapter level, immersing these selected individuals in a comprehensive leadership development program to enhance their skills. Additionally, the program aims to acknowledge these scholars, contributing to a lasting legacy for the future of our state and nation.

As part of the program, Sydney will be working closely with a mentor throughout the year, identifying needs in her community, and creating and funding a project to meet these needs in collaboration with her FFA chapter.

This program is open to state FFA members who have fulfilled the requirements for the Lone Star Degree. The selection process includes the submission of an application and essay followed by an interview for shortlisted candidates. These students are then invited to a rigorous week-long leadership training program where they gather the skills to be leaders in their communities and beyond. At the end of the program, the scholars are honored at the state convention and receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The objective of the leadership training week is to equip the scholars with the resources to return to their communities to develop substantial and sustainable community service capstone projects. This experience not only enhances their leadership skills but also fosters a lasting impact on the communities they serve.
