Champions Park: Recycling Reminder
Recyclable materials placed inside plastic bags will not be collected by GFL Environmental. This policy is in place because plastic bags can clog sorting equipment at recycling facilities, create safety hazards for workers, and contaminate otherwise recyclable materials. Once contaminated, entire batches of recyclables may have to be sent to a landfill instead of being reused.
To ensure proper collection, residents should place recyclables loosely in an approved recycling bin. Those who do not have a bin can request one at no cost by calling GFL at 281-449-8500. The company provides these containers to encourage proper recycling habits and make it easier for households to participate.
Recycling plays a critical role in conserving natural resources, reducing landfill waste, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. By keeping plastic bags out of the recycling stream, residents help improve the efficiency of the process and ensure that more materials can be repurposed into new products. Simple actions, such as using the right bin and avoiding plastic bag contamination, make a significant difference in keeping the community’s recycling program successful.
