CFISD Student of the Week: Andres Muñoz
Birkes Elementary School fifth grade student Andres Muñoz is credited by his teacher for being a leader in the classroom and always doing the right thing even when no one is looking. He always puts others before himself, said Birkes fifth grade reading and language arts teacher Kelley Bartels, and his compassion for his fellow students does not go unnoticed.
School: Birkes Elementary School | Age: 11 | Grade: 5
Accomplishments: Muñoz is regarded as an exceptional student who consistently shows school pride, makes wise choices and has a positive attitude.
Favorite class: “My favorite class has to be social studies. The first reason I love social studies is because I love learning about the past. These amazing, historical leaders inspire me to become somebody who is known across the globe. The second reason is these people have changed the world. I want to be known for doing the same thing.”
Favorite things to do after class: “I enjoy playing goalkeeper for my soccer team. One of the reasons I love playing soccer is there are not many people who want to grow up to be a goalkeeper. They would prefer to score goals and be like the greats. I want to be a goalkeeper because they are leaders. They help the team stay in formation, cheer the players up and make great role models.
“I also love playing with my friends. I’m not in the same class as a lot of my friends so we don’t like wasting quality time.”
Favorite song: “My favorite music type is rap but I don’t have a favorite song. I basically love every rap song.”
Favorite website/app: “Roblox—there are millions of games so I never get bored.”
Favorite TV show: “I don’t have a favorite but I do like humorous sitcoms like Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn. I love to laugh.”
Favorite movie: “My favorite movie would have to be Spider-Man: No Way Home. I love this movie because it’s entertaining and wholesome.”
Ambition: “When I grow up, I want to become a goalkeeper. I hope to win many trophies and awards, but the award I really want is the Ballon d’Or (annual soccer award which honors the best male player active in European clubs). There has only been one goalkeeper to win the award. I want to win this award too because that way kids will look up to me and want to become great leaders.”
What topics/things are you passionate about?: “Wreaths Across America because I love honoring the people who died to keep us safe. I went there last year but caught in a massive storm. I still laid down around 30 wreaths.”
What inspires you?: “My family inspires me. They cheer me up when I’m down, keep me safe and feed me. Sure, we make mistakes and get mad at each other but I still look up to my parents and siblings.”
What three things can’t you live without?: “My family, God and friends and sports.”
What are you most looking forward to this semester?: “I’m trying to get all A’s and be on the honor roll so I’m going to try and learn more and keep my grades up.”
