Accomplishments: Todd recently received two gold key awards in the Scholastic Art & Writing contest for her poetry portfolio titled The Fragments of Womanhood and an additional poem titled The Ugly Sister. Both advanced to the national contest. Todd also earned two silver keys in the contest. She also had her poetry published in the I Write I am Texas book, which broke a world record the largest published book. In addition, Todd placed second in advanced photo story in the 2022 Association of Texas Photography Instructors (ATPI) fall contest and won two regional medals for her photography in the 2022 Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). Favorite class: “I love my dual credit Environmental Science class because I learn about renewable energy, climate change, pollution and more. There are so many interesting facts and experiments to be done in this class that help me understand the world we live in. This class also helped me realize that I want to major in environmental science in college.”

Favorite things to do after class: “My favorite thing to do is write poetry! I love thinking of new themes and ideas and how long I can keep a rhyme going. I also love spending time with my little sister as we watch movies together and play games. She has so many questions about the world. I love answering all of her questions and overall bonding with her.”

Favorite song: Sunny Day by beabadoobee.”

Favorite website/app: BeReal, because I get to see what my friends are doing and send fun reaction images to them.”

Favorite TV show: The Last of Us, because it’s all about science fiction and zombies. I love how the monsters are very realistic and how they have a real science behind the monsters. The characters are also well written.”

Favorite movie: “My favorite movie is Kiki’s Delivery Service. I love this movie because it’s very lighthearted and has beautiful visuals. It also has a good mix of funny, sad and wholesome moments.”

Ambition: “I am very ambitious about bringing clean water to those who need it. I recently learned about schistosomiasis which is a disease caused by a parasitic worm that can enter a person’s body by drinking unclean water. This made me realize that dirty water causes far more than just sickness but horrible conditions that seem fictional. I hope to research how to bring clean water to people in need and how we can prevent these problems from happening so no person has to experience schistosomiasis again.”

What topics/things are you passionate about?: “I am very passionate about science and literature. I love science because there is so much to know about every topic. Science is everywhere and it is so interesting to learn about the extraordinary things about the ordinary things around us. I also love learning about different types of literature and how concepts from the past are still relevant today through writing.”

What inspires you?: “My mom has been through a lot of bad situations in her life and life has not dealt her the best cards, yet she still shows kindness, compassion and support to everyone around her. I hope to be like her when I am older.”

What three things can’t you live without?: “I can’t live without my family, my best friend and music.”
