CFISD Robotics Teams Excel at State Championship

Robotics teams from four CFISD high schools competed in the VEX Robotics UIL Texas State Championship, held Feb. 7 at the Learner Support Center in Clear Creek ISD, placing among the top 25.

The “Over Under” style competition is played on a 12-by-12 square-foot field with two alliances—one red and one blue—composed of two teams each, competing in matches consisting of a 15-second autonomous period followed by a 1:45 driver-controlled period. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by Scoring triballs in goals and by elevating at the end of the match.

Team 16329C, “Springles,” from Cypress Ridge High School placed 10th with a record of 4-3-0. Team members are Jimmy Montealvo, Thomas Elliot and Hongji Shi. The team adviser is Jessie Vo. Cypress Ridge’s other competing team, 16329A, “Fire,” placed 20th with a record of 4-3-0. Team members are Jonathan Arnold, Nicholas Vidal and Abdelrahman Elsafdi.

Team 7786B, “nOHSA,” from Bridgeland High School placed 14th with a record of 5-2-0. Team members are Thad Rauch, Joshua Holmes, Robert Mock, Stephen (Wyatt) Conger and Donovan Bechi. The team adviser is Devin Murphy. Bridgeland’s other competing team, 7786D, “D-rivative,” placed 29th with a record of 2-5-0.

Team 78705A, “BFND,” from Cy-Fair High School placed 21st with a record of 4-3-0. Team members are Khalil Hayden, Griffin Colburn, Emma VickSebastian Cuevasand Sean Partridge. The team adviser is Sean Finn.

Team 1412J, “Red Chair Robotics,” from Cypress Springs High School placed 25thwith a record of 2-5-0. Team members are Fatima Meeks, Blake Berg and Landon Chau. The adviser is Glenn Winstryg.

Additionally, 42 robotics teams from 10 CFISD high schools competed in the CFISD High School Invitational, held Feb. 8 at the Berry Center.
 

Cypress Ridge team No. 16329C, Springles, was a semifinalist, along with Langham Creek High School teams LC PowerPack (83280D), CHA0S (83280X) and LC Rampage (83280W).

Cypress Park High School team No. 33538B, Crimesom Rosie, was a finalist, along with Cypress Ridge team No. 16329E, Ember.

The following teams earned awards:

  • Springles, Cypress Ridge (16329C) – Excellence Award and Robot Skills Champion;
  • BFND, Cy-Fair (78705A) – Tournament Champions;
  • nOSHA, Bridgeland (77786B) – Tournament Champions;
  • BFND, Cy-Fair (78705A) – Design Award; and
  • Pink, Cypress Ridge (16329V) – Judges Award.
