CFISD Names New Principal for Birkes Elementary School
Megan Fernandez, assistant principal at Birkes Elementary School, was named the principal of Birkes on June 10. Fernandez replaces Stacie Everson, who was named principal at Salyards Middle School.
Fernandez has 19 years of experience in education. She began her career as a pre-k teacher at Holbrook Elementary School, where she later served as a reading enrichment teacher and fourth grade classroom teacher. In 2010, she became the math curriculum coach at Holbrook, before being named assistant principal at Holmsley Elementary School in 2012.
Fernandez became assistant principal at Birkes in 2017, where she has also served as math interventionist and testing coordinator. She moved back into her current position as assistant principal at Birkes in 2023.
Fernandez earned her Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2003 from Texas A&M University and her Master of Education in Administration in 2008 from Sam Houston State University.
“I’m truly honored to be selected as the next principal for Birkes Elementary,” said Fernandez. “Birkes has been my home for the past seven years and I am looking forward to serving our students, staff, and community in this new role. Proud to be a Bulldog!”
