CFISD Names New Assistant Superintendent of School Leadership

May 25 2023

Irene Ruiz, director of community programs, was named CFISD’s new assistant superintendent of elementary school leadership on May 25. Ruiz replaces Christina Cole, who was promoted to chief officer of school leadership in April. She will assume her new role on July 3.

Ruiz has more than 20 years of educational experience, including 13 with CFISD. Her career began as a bilingual teacher in Northside ISD, where she spent one year before serving in the same role in Arlington ISD for five years.

She was promoted to an assistant principal position in Arlington ISD where she spent one year before arriving in CFISD at Moore Elementary School in 2010. Ruiz served three years as a Moore assistant principal before she was named principal at M. Robinson Elementary School in 2013. In her five years with M. Robinson, she and her staff achieved incremental growth each year with the Title I campus and earned five TEA distinction designations for the 2016-2017 school year.

In 2018, she was named to her current role of director of community programs. In this role, she has led a staff of approximately 400 at 56 campuses and five early learning centers, while managing a budget of more than $10 million. This year, her team impacted nearly 4,000 students. Additionally, she and her team created a leadership institute to develop future early learning center leaders.

Ruiz earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and her Master of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington.

“I am honored and grateful to be selected to support and serve our elementary principals and campuses in this new role,” Ruiz said. “CFISD is truly a place where we bring out the best in each other, and I look forward to working with principals as we continue providing optimal learning and working environments for all of our students and staff.”
