CFISD Audio/Video Production Students Claim First and Third Place in Crime Stoppers Video Contest
Jersey Village and Cypress Woods High School audio/video production students (AVP) earned first and third place in the 2023-2024 School Public Service Announcement contest. Students from both teams were recognized during an awards ceremony on May 15 at Crime Stoppers of Houston.
This year’s contest, Prevent To Protect, required AVP students to produce a 45-to 60-second video raising awareness of the dangers of fentanyl and other substances.
“The annual FBI Crimestoppers contest is an important example of the work we do to try to reach out to the community on important issues that we face,” said Brandy Milson, Jersey Village AVP adviser. “It’s an opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity as well as educate our CFISD community on a current societal challenge. I am so proud of this year’s winners. They worked very hard on this project and demonstrated mastery in project management, production skills, and storytelling. Falcon Best!”
Videos were judged by their originality, relevance, social media score and other criteria. The social media score was calculated based on the number of YouTube views, likes and shares during the voting period.
“I’m incredibly proud of our students for consistently placing in the top three of the Crimestoppers video competition over the past three years,” said Lori Andrade, Cypress Woods AVP adviser. “While we participate in many contests, this one is particularly meaningful. The topics are crucial for teenagers to discuss, and it empowers our students to voice important messages to their peers.”
First-place prizes included brand new iPads for the Jersey Village AVP team members and third-place prizes were AirPods for the Cypress Woods AVP team.
