Celebrate Cultures from Around the World at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Free Multicultural Festival in Richmond
Looking for a unique way to spend your Saturday while soaking up culture, creativity, and community? Fort Bend County Libraries’ Multicultural Festival is bringing the world to Richmond on Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at George Memorial Library—and it’s completely free.
This dynamic, family-friendly event is more than just a local festival. It’s a colorful celebration of global cultures that calls attention to the diversity that makes Fort Bend County one of the most vibrant areas in Texas. With an exciting lineup of live performances, hands-on STEM activities, cultural exhibits, and an international food court, there’s something for everyone.
Global Music and Dance Light Up the Stage
The festival kicks off with a burst of sound and tradition as the North America Youth Chinese Orchestra takes the amphitheater stage at 10:30 a.m. These talented young musicians blend Western and traditional Chinese instruments—think violins alongside pipas and guzhengs—to create a moving musical experience rooted in cultural pride and artistic discipline.

Later in the day, at 1:00 p.m., the energy shifts to the Garage Arts Project’s World Beats, a series of lively performances that spotlight musical styles and dance traditions from around the globe. It’s the perfect way to introduce kids—and adults—to the rich rhythms and movements of different cultures, all without leaving Fort Bend.
STEM Meets Culture in the Plaza
While the performances draw the crowds, the STEM activities happening from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. are just as engaging. Unite & Inspire, a nonprofit volunteer group, is setting up interactive stations in the fountain plaza where science meets cultural heritage. Families can learn about scientific breakthroughs and discoveries influenced by different cultures while getting their hands on experiments and demonstrations that make learning fun.
Taste the World in One Afternoon
What would a cultural celebration be without food? The International Food Court, open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., turns the Bohachevsky Gallery into a global tasting room. Sample dishes from across continents—no passport required. It’s a flavorful way to experience global traditions and maybe even discover your new favorite cuisine.
