Building a Better Community: GHBA's Charity Initiatives Make a Difference in Houston and Beyond
The Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), an organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the home building industry, continues to make an impact in communities across the Houston area, including here in Cypress. Over the weekend of March 23-24, a Charity Garage Sale was hosted by the GHBA Remodelers Council at the Cy-Fair Home and Outdoor Living Show at the Berry Center of Northwest Houston.
This initiative, tailored for DIY enthusiasts and those looking to bring high-end design elements to their homes without the hefty price tag, offered a plethora of open-box products - from light fixtures, faucets, vanities, and tiles, to lumber, doors, windows, and skylights. Participants were able to purchase high dollar design elements at a fraction of their original cost.
But the Charity Garage Sale isn't just about offering a good deal. Funds raised from the sale are allocated towards GHBA Remodelers Council’s HomeAid Houston projects. Over the past decade, this initiative has generated nearly $150,000 in proceeds to support RMC Charity Projects. This year's sale at the Cy-Fair Home and Outdoor Living Show alone raised an estimated $20,000.
Recently, the GHBA has also initiated the groundwork of a charity home project in Elyson, located in Katy. Chesmar Homes will construct this home as part of the GHBA's Benefit Homes Project, which sees two homes built annually to support worthy causes. The 2,988-square-foot house, boasting four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, will be sold to benefit Operation Finally Home, a charity that provides housing for wounded military veterans, and HomeAid Houston, a nonprofit working to assist at-risk individuals facing homelessness.
