Brookwood Café Expands Popular Spring Gardening Workshop as Interest Grows for Summer Lunch & Learn Series
For local gardening enthusiasts, plant lovers, and families looking for meaningful summer activities near Brookshire and Katy, The Brookwood Community has added 11 more spots to one of its most popular seasonal events.
Brookwood® Horticulture recently announced expanded availability for its Spring Container Garden Workshop Lunch & Learn at The Brookwood Café after strong community interest filled much of the original seating. The hands-on gardening event will take place Friday, May 29, with sessions offered at 10:30 a.m. and noon.
The workshop combines practical gardening education with one of the region’s most unique community-centered dining experiences, giving guests the opportunity to create their own spring container garden while enjoying lunch at The Brookwood Café.
For many residents across West Houston, Brookshire, Katy, and Fort Bend County, events like these offer more than gardening tips. They also provide a chance to directly support The Brookwood Community’s mission of “changing the way the world thinks about adults with disabilities.”
Located in Brookshire, The Brookwood Community has long been recognized for creating educational, residential, and vocational opportunities for adults with disabilities through programs that emphasize dignity, purpose, and meaningful work. Brookwood Horticulture is one of the organization’s signature programs, featuring greenhouses, seasonal plants, handcrafted garden products, and educational workshops that regularly attract visitors from across the Houston area.
The Spring Container Garden Workshop is the first event in Brookwood’s 2026 summer Lunch & Learn series, which blends gardening education with community connection and hospitality.
Upcoming events include:
Native & Drought Resistant Plants — June 26
As Texas homeowners continue looking for ways to conserve water and create more sustainable landscapes during hot summer months, Brookwood’s June Lunch & Learn will focus on native and drought-resistant plants that thrive in the Gulf Coast climate.
The session is scheduled for Friday, June 26 at 10:30 a.m. at The Brookwood Café.
Tropical Plants — July 31
The series concludes Friday, July 31 with a Tropical Plants-themed Lunch & Learn exploring colorful tropical varieties that perform well in Southeast Texas gardens and patios.
Each event includes an educational presentation, lunch at The Brookwood Café, and a special take-home gift for participants.
The workshops arrive at a time when interest in home gardening, pollinator-friendly landscapes, and outdoor living continues growing throughout suburban communities west of Houston. Residents across neighborhoods in Katy, Brookshire, Fulshear, Cypress, and surrounding areas have increasingly embraced container gardening and drought-conscious landscaping as both practical and enjoyable ways to enhance their homes.
Brookwood’s workshops also stand out because they combine education with a larger community purpose. Many of the plants, products, and café experiences directly support vocational training opportunities for Brookwood citizens — the term the organization uses for the adults with disabilities who live and work within the community.
With only a limited number of newly added seats available for the May 29 workshop, organizers encourage interested guests to reserve spots soon.
Reservations for all Lunch & Learn events can be made online through Brookwood Horticulture’s event page.
