Brookshire PD and Katy PD Launch Friendly Fundraiser Competition to Support Veterans and First Responders Across West Houston
As communities across the Katy and Brookshire area continue looking for ways to support veterans, first responders, and mental health initiatives close to home, two local police departments are stepping up together — with a little friendly rivalry mixed in.
The City of Brookshire Police Department and Katy Police Department have launched a month-long PTSD fundraiser competition throughout June to raise money for organizations dedicated to helping veterans and first responders facing post-traumatic stress and related challenges. While the departments are competing for a trophy and local bragging rights, the real focus is on increasing awareness and financial support for programs that provide life-changing services to those who have served.
The fundraiser benefits Camp Hope, operated by the PTSD Foundation of America, and SOS for Vets, two organizations known for supporting veterans and first responders struggling with PTSD, trauma recovery, housing instability, and emotional wellness.
According to the City of Brookshire Police Department, community participation will play a major role in determining which department wins the competition.
“Throughout the month of June, the City of Brookshire Police Department is going head-to-head with Katy Police Department in a friendly fundraiser competition to support veterans and first responders through Camp Hope and SOS for Vets,” the department shared in a public announcement.
The fundraiser arrives at a time when conversations surrounding mental health support for veterans and emergency personnel continue growing across Texas and the nation. For many local families in Katy, Brookshire, Fulshear, and surrounding West Houston communities, military service and first responder careers are deeply personal connections that touch neighbors, relatives, and friends.
Camp Hope Provides Long-Term PTSD Recovery Support for Veterans
One of the primary beneficiaries, Camp Hope, is a nationally recognized interim housing and peer support program operated by the PTSD Foundation of America. Based in Houston, Camp Hope serves combat veterans and first responders dealing with combat-related PTSD and other invisible wounds of war.
The program provides housing, mentoring, counseling referrals, spiritual support, career guidance, and community reintegration assistance designed to help veterans rebuild stability and reconnect with their families and communities.
Camp Hope has become widely known throughout Texas for its work addressing veteran suicide prevention and mental health recovery, particularly among those transitioning back into civilian life after military service.
The Brookshire and Katy police departments noted that donations collected during the fundraiser will directly support organizations like Camp Hope that are actively helping those who served.
SOS for Vets Focuses on Emergency Assistance and Veteran Support
The fundraiser also supports SOS for Vets, an organization committed to helping veterans and first responders through outreach programs, crisis assistance, advocacy, and wellness support services.
Programs like SOS for Vets often step in during moments of financial hardship, emotional crisis, or transitional instability, helping connect individuals with critical resources and support networks.
For many local residents, the fundraiser offers a practical way to give back to veterans and emergency personnel while also strengthening community ties between neighboring cities.
Friendly Competition Bringing Communities Together
While the fundraiser includes a competitive element between the Brookshire Police Department and Katy Police Department, the event is ultimately centered on unity and service.
“The winning police department that raises the most funds will receive a trophy,” organizers noted in promotional materials for the campaign.
Brookshire Police also encouraged residents, families, and businesses throughout the region to help spread awareness online and throughout the community to maximize the fundraiser’s impact.
“We also ask our community, family, and friends to please share this post and help us spread the word so we can make the biggest impact possible,” the department stated.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among local law enforcement agencies seeking ways to strengthen relationships with residents through charitable outreach and community-driven causes rather than enforcement alone.
For residents in Brookshire, Katy, and nearby communities, the fundraiser also serves as a reminder that support systems for veterans and first responders often depend heavily on local partnerships and grassroots involvement.
How Residents Can Donate
Residents interested in supporting the fundraiser can donate throughout the month of June by contacting Community Relations Officer Phillips with the City of Brookshire Police Department.
Donations can be coordinated by email at dphillips@brookshiretx.gov or by phone at 346-457-8632.
As the competition unfolds during June, both departments are encouraging the community to rally behind the cause — and perhaps enjoy a little hometown rivalry along the way.
“One community. Two departments. One mission."
