Bridgeland, Cy-Fair Marching Bands Advance to Class 6A State Finals
The Bridgeland and Cy-Fair high school marching bands advanced to the UIL Class 6A State Marching Band Championship Finals Round after preliminary competition on Oct. 30 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The two ensembles, along with the Cypress Woods High School marching band, gave CFISD three state participants for the third consecutive year.
Bridgeland and Cy-Fair are CFISD’s first two state finalists since 2006. Langham Creek High School placed sixth that year in Class 5A, then the state’s largest classification, and finished fourth in 2004.
CFISD joins Leander ISD and Lewisville ISD in having multiple marching bands advance to the Finals Round. Bridgeland will perform its show, “Where Flowers Bloom” at 3 p.m. and Cy-Fair will perform its show, “Caging the Swarm” at 3:30 p.m.
“Having two schools from the same school district advance to the Finals Round of the Class 6A marching championships is huge,” said John Morrison, CFISD director of fine arts. “The Cy-Fair and Bridgeland bands are CFISD’s first ever participants, since the inception of the 6A classification, in the Finals Round.”
The Bridgeland, Cy-Fair and Cypress Woods marching ensembles advanced and competed at the state contest after placing among the top five at the UIL Area I Marching Band Contest on Oct. 21 at Katy ISD’s Legacy Stadium. The 2023 state contest marks the fourth consecutive state bid for both Bridgeland and Cypress Woods and the fifth overall appearance for the Cypress Woods program. Bridgeland advanced after being named the 2023 Area I Marching Contest Grand Champion.
Cy-Fair advanced to state for the seventh time in program history and second consecutive year.
“The performances here at the UIL State Marching Band Championships have been amazing,” Morrison said. “These students and their teachers continue to inspire me. I’m also very thankful for the parents and communities of our participating schools. It truly takes a village to perform at this level, and we certainly saw the communities from Bridgeland, Cy-Fair and Cypress Woods high schools really show up for their students.”
