Bojangles Plans First Converse Location Along FM 78 as Growth Continues Across Northeast Bexar County
As residential and commercial growth continues reshaping northeast Bexar County, another nationally recognized restaurant brand is preparing to establish a presence in Converse.
According to official permit filings, Bojangles is set to build a new fast-food restaurant at 7613 FM 78, Converse, TX 78109, with construction expected to begin June 1, 2026, and wrap up by the end of the year. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $1.8 million and will include a 2,829-square-foot restaurant designed specifically for the chain’s signature Southern-style menu.
For many residents in Converse, Live Oak, Kirby and surrounding communities along the FM 78 corridor, the project signals continued commercial momentum in an area that has seen rapid residential development, expanding traffic volumes and increasing demand for new dining options close to home.
The addition of Bojangles also reflects a broader trend of national restaurant brands targeting fast-growing suburban communities around San Antonio, particularly in areas where new housing developments and commuter traffic continue driving consumer demand.
Bojangles Expands Its Texas Presence
Founded in 1977 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Bojangles has built a loyal following across the South for its Cajun-seasoned fried chicken, made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits and all-day breakfast menu.
The chain is especially known for menu items including its Bo’s Chicken Sandwich, Cajun Chicken Filet Biscuit, Bo-Berry Biscuits, seasoned fries, dirty rice and sweet tea. Unlike many traditional fast-food restaurants, Bojangles has long emphasized scratch-made biscuits prepared fresh throughout the day — a feature that helped distinguish the brand as it expanded across the Southeast.
In recent years, the company has accelerated growth across Texas as demand for Southern-style fast food and breakfast concepts continues increasing statewide. New Bojangles locations have opened or been announced in several major Texas markets, including San Antonio, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Converse project will be the third Bojangles location in the San Antonio area.
Why the New Converse Restaurant Matters Locally
For residents living along FM 78, the new restaurant represents more than another drive-thru option.
The corridor has become one of the region’s busiest suburban growth areas, with new neighborhoods, retail centers and infrastructure investments steadily transforming the landscape between Converse and San Antonio’s East Side.
As population growth continues pushing outward from central San Antonio, commercial development has increasingly followed. National chains often view restaurant expansion as a sign of long-term consumer confidence in a community’s economic future.
The Bojangles project also adds another dining option for commuters traveling between Converse, Randolph Air Force Base and downtown San Antonio — a route that sees heavy daily traffic from military families, workers and residents throughout northeast Bexar County.
New restaurant construction can also create additional local employment opportunities during both the construction phase and long-term restaurant operations.
While site plans and operational details have not yet been publicly released, the restaurant is expected to follow the company’s modern prototype design commonly used in newer Texas markets, which typically includes drive-thru service and updated dining areas.
Continued Growth Along FM 78
The FM 78 corridor has remained one of the most active commercial development zones in the eastern San Antonio metro area, with continued investment tied to nearby housing growth and regional transportation access.
Communities like Converse have increasingly attracted new retailers, restaurants and service providers seeking access to expanding suburban populations. For longtime residents, the pace of development has become one of the defining changes shaping the area’s future.
As projects like Bojangles continue moving forward, residents can expect additional commercial announcements to follow in the years ahead.
What happens next will likely depend on permitting progress and construction timelines throughout 2026, but the project adds another visible sign of how rapidly Converse and northeast Bexar County continue evolving.
