Behind the Badge: Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office Opens Applications for Fall 2025 Citizens Police Academy

July 25 2025

Ever wondered what it’s really like to work in law enforcement? This fall, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) is giving residents a chance to step inside the world of policing with its Fall 2025 Citizens Police Academy, now open for online applications.

The 11-week program runs from September 4 through November 20, 2025, meeting Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gus George Law Enforcement Academy in Richmond. There’s no cost to attend, but spots are limited to 35 participants, so early applications are encouraged before the August 25 deadline.

The Citizens Police Academy isn’t your typical lecture series. Participants will hear directly from division commanders and program managers, tour multiple Sheriff’s Office facilities—including the Detention Center, Patrol Division, and 9-1-1 Communications Center—and see firsthand how investigations, narcotics enforcement, and homeland security operations work.

Graduates often say the experience changes the way they see their community and law enforcement’s role in it. The program even includes meeting Sheriff Eric Fagan and the executive command team, giving residents a chance to ask questions and connect with the people who make daily public safety decisions.

To qualify, applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have no criminal arrest record. Applications are available online at this website. For additional information, email socp@fortbendcountytx.gov or call 281-238-1536

This program has become one of the Sheriff’s Office’s most popular community outreach efforts, offering an up-close look at policing in one of Texas’s fastest-growing counties. It’s not just about learning—it’s about building relationships between residents and the deputies who serve them every day.
