Austin Spurs Reacquire Guard Stanley Umude, Boosting Roster Ahead of Sioux Falls Matchup

March 06 2026

The Austin Spurs are bringing back a familiar contributor as the team prepares for its next stretch of NBA G League play. On March 5, 2026, the Austin Spurs announced they have reacquired guard Stanley Umude, a versatile scorer who previously delivered strong production during his time with the team this season.

For Central Texas basketball fans, the move reinforces the close connection between the Austin Spurs and their NBA affiliate, the San Antonio Spurs, where player development and roster movement are a regular part of the organization’s strategy.

Umude is expected to be available when Austin faces the Sioux Falls Skyforce in a back-to-back road series on Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m. CT and Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m. CT at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Both games will stream live on the NBA G League App.

A Proven Contributor Returning to the Austin Spurs

Standing 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, Umude returns to Austin after most recently serving as a Two-Way player with the San Antonio Spurs, a designation that allows players to split time between an NBA team and its G League affiliate.

During his previous run with the Austin Spurs this season, Umude emerged as one of the team’s most consistent offensive threats. Across 31 games, including Tip-Off Tournament and regular-season contests, he averaged:

  • 18.2 points per game
  • 4.5 rebounds per game
  • 1.7 assists per game
  • 34.8 minutes per game

His ability to score from multiple areas of the floor and contribute defensively made him a key piece of the Austin rotation during that stretch.

From San Antonio High School Standout to Professional Basketball

While born in Portland, Oregon, Umude’s basketball story has deep roots in South Texas. He grew up in San Antonio and attended Earl Warren High School, where he developed into one of the area’s top players and earned All-District recognition during his senior season.

Umude continued his career at the University of South Dakota, where he became one of the program’s top scorers and earned multiple All-Summit League honors over four seasons. He later transferred to the University of Arkansas for the 2021–2022 season, helping the Razorbacks reach the NCAA Tournament while showcasing his scoring ability on a national stage.

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, Umude worked his way through professional basketball opportunities, spending time with NBA organizations including the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks while continuing to develop in the NBA G League.

His journey reflects a path common in modern professional basketball, where players often move between NBA and G League rosters as they continue refining their game.

Why the Move Matters for Austin Spurs Fans

For Austin Spurs supporters, Umude’s return brings a player already familiar with the team’s system and expectations. His scoring ability, size on the wing, and experience across multiple professional organizations add depth to the roster as the season progresses.

The Austin Spurs, based at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park, serve as the official developmental team for the San Antonio Spurs, giving Central Texas fans an up-close look at emerging talent within the Spurs organization.

Players who perform well in Austin frequently earn additional NBA opportunities, making G League games an important stage for development and evaluation.

What Happens Next

With Umude back on the roster, the Austin Spurs will look to build momentum in their upcoming games against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

The back-to-back matchup offers an immediate opportunity for the guard to rejoin the lineup and contribute as the team continues its G League schedule.

For basketball fans across the Austin area and throughout Central Texas, the move adds another storyline to watch as the Austin Spurs continue developing talent within the broader San Antonio Spurs organization.
