August 2025 Events at Barbara Bush Branch Library Bring Storytimes, Creative Workshops, and Family Fun Near Champions Park

Just minutes from Champions Park, the Barbara Bush Branch Library at 6817 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, TX 77379 continues to thrive as a hub of lifelong learning, literacy, and community connection. As August begins, the library is rolling out a diverse calendar of free programs designed to engage residents of all ages.

Opened in 2002 and named in honor of First Lady Barbara Bush, a lifelong advocate for literacy, this Harris County Public Library branch has become a gathering place for families across northwest Houston. Its August programming mixes seasonal favorites with new opportunities to learn, create, and explore.

Here’s a look at what’s happening this month.

For Babies, Toddlers & Preschoolers

Weekly early literacy programs help little ones build strong reading skills through stories, songs, and interactive play:

  • Baby Storytime (Ages 0–18 months): Mondays at 10:30 AM

  • Toddler Time (Ages 18–36 months): Tuesdays at 10:30 AM

  • Pre-School Storytime (Ages 3–5): Wednesdays at 11:15 AM

Special family moments also include Pajama Storytime on Monday, August 18, at 6:30 PM, perfect for winding down together with stories before bedtime.

Kids, Tweens & Teens

August is packed with creativity and interactive fun for school-aged children and teens:

  • Dragonslayers’ Inn (Family Gaming): Friday, August 1, 2:00 PM

  • Tuesday Crafternoon: Origami Pencil Holders: Tuesday, August 5, 3:00 PM

  • Paint Your Jeans (Teen Workshop): Thursday, August 7, 1:00 PM

  • Puppet Players Present: Tuesday, August 12 & 26, 4:30 PM

  • Teens Explore: Archaeology: Wednesday, August 13, 2:00 PM

  • Clay Creations (Teen Art Workshop): Wednesday, August 27, 5:00 PM

Teens can also explore science, technology, and music through hands-on workshops like 3D Printer Orientation on Friday, August 15, at 4:00 PM and Introduction to Basic Song Writing on Wednesday, August 27, at 6:00 PM.

Adults and Lifelong Learners

Programs for adults range from technology training to creative hobbies:

  • Computer Basics (6-Week Course): Thursdays at 11:00 AM and Saturday, August 23, 10:30 AM

  • Advanced Excel (Part 1): Tuesday, August 19, 1:00 PM

  • Advanced Excel (Part 2): Tuesday, August 26, 1:00 PM

  • Anti-Social Book Club Workshop: Thursday, August 7, 4:00 PM

  • Evening Book Club: Tuesday, August 12, 6:30 PM

  • True Crime: Case Study: Monday, August 25, 6:00 PM

Those looking to expand their careers can join the College and Career Job Readiness Workshops on Monday, August 4, and Monday, August 25, both at 5:00 PM.

Community Highlights

August also features unique events designed to bring neighbors together and promote safety and wellness:

  • Community CPR/AED/Choking Rescue & Stop the Bleed Training: Wednesday, August 20, 6:00 PM

  • Paws 4 Purpose (Therapy Dogs for Kids): Wednesday, August 27, 4:00 PM

  • Friends of the Library Bookstore: Open multiple days each week, with all proceeds benefiting library programs

Labor Day Schedule

The library will close at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 29, and remain closed August 30–September 1 in observance of Labor Day.

Register for Library Events

Most adult and teen programs require advance registration, and children’s events require tickets available 15 minutes before start time. Registration can be completed online at hcpl.net, by calling 832-927-7800, or by visiting the library in person.

Residents in Champions Park are encouraged to mark their calendars, invite friends and family, and see what the Barbara Bush Branch Library has to offer just minutes from home. Whether you’re reading with your toddler, diving into a new craft, or brushing up on computer skills, there’s something for everyone this August.
