'Annie' Brings Joy and Resilience to Stageworks Theatre in Northwest Houston This Summer
Stageworks Theatre in Northwest Houston is bringing the sun out this summer with its highly anticipated production of Annie, running from July 25 to August 17, 2025, at the Garza Mainstage. Directed by Stacy Hawking, this heartwarming musical promises to delight audiences of all ages with unforgettable songs, dynamic performances, and a message that resonates as strongly today as it did on Broadway decades ago.
Based on the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the musical features a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Martin Charnin. Since its Broadway debut, Annie has become a global sensation and earned seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Songs like “Tomorrow” and “It’s a Hard Knock Life” have cemented its place in the hearts of generations.
Set in 1930s New York City during the Great Depression, Annie follows a plucky young orphan determined to find her real parents, who left her years ago on the doorstep of a city orphanage run by the cantankerous Miss Hannigan. With the help of her fellow orphans and a string of lucky breaks, Annie escapes to the bustling streets of New York, where she crosses paths with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his kindhearted secretary Grace Farrell, a scruffy dog named Sandy, and even President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Through wit, charm, and a resilient spirit, Annie transforms her world and finds the true meaning of family.
