'American Pie Holes' Exhibit at LSC-CyFair Transforms Everyday Junk Into Art
Discarded objects take on new life in the “American Pie Holes” exhibition by visiting artist Robert Dohrmann, on display at Lone Star College-CyFair’s Bosque Gallery from February 27 to April 10. This thought-provoking exhibition challenges viewers to rethink consumer culture through repurposed materials and found objects, transforming thrift store relics into artistic statements on capitalism, mass production, and environmental impact.
Dohrmann, an artist known for his innovative “re-arts” approach, finds inspiration in what others might overlook—old cardboard print paintings, shadow box clocks, LP records, and other discarded consumer goods. He views thrift and antique stores as “museums where affordable consumer goods go to die and hopefully be reborn.”
His work explores American consumer history, shedding light on issues such as middle- and upper-class consumerism, the consequences of low-cost mass production, corporate greed, and climate change. The exhibition encourages viewers to reflect on their relationship with material goods and the environmental impact of unchecked consumption.
