Alligator Spotted in Towne Lake: MUD 500 Takes Swift Action to Ensure Community Safety

September 16 2025

A confirmed sighting of an alligator in the heart of the Towne Lake community has prompted Harris County MUD 500 to initiate active wildlife monitoring across its lake system. The report, received on September 14, 2025, described an alligator spotted in the central section of the district’s lakes, between Greenhouse Road and Puckett Island.

In response, MUD 500 immediately contacted its wildlife management contractor and directed them to monitor the area closely. Should the alligator be located, the contractor is prepared to remove the animal promptly after securing the required nuisance permit from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD).

The presence of alligators in Texas lakes is not unheard of, especially in areas like Towne Lake where nature and development coexist. However, MUD 500 emphasizes that resident safety is a top priority. The district is asking all residents and visitors to refrain from interfering with the contractor’s work, including any lines, traps, or other equipment placed in or near the lakes.

“MUD 500 immediately notified its wildlife management contractor of the sighting and directed the trapper to actively monitor for an alligator and, if one is located, to immediately remove it upon obtaining the required nuisance permit from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department,” the district stated in its announcement.

How Towne Lake Residents Can Help

MUD 500 urges all residents to remain vigilant and to report any future wildlife sightings — especially of alligators — to the district’s operator, Inframark, at 832-467-1599. Timely reports from residents help ensure that the district can respond quickly to protect the community.

Additionally, residents are encouraged to:

  • Avoid feeding or approaching any wildlife.
  • Keep pets and children away from the shoreline.
  • Share this information with neighbors, particularly those who enjoy lakeside activities.
