A Gentle Reminder for Lakes on Eldridge Residents About Speeding in Our Community
Editor's Note: This correspondence was submitted to My Neighborhood News by Angela Morin, the community manager for Lakes on Eldridge.
Our neighborhood is a wonderful place to live because it is designed to be safe, welcoming, and walkable. The posted speed limit of 25 mph (20 mph in school zones) is not arbitrary; it reflects the unique mix of people and activities that make our community vibrant. Unfortunately, many vehicles are traveling well above this limit, creating unnecessary risks for everyone.
We are home to many children and senior citizens who may not always be able to react quickly or consistently to oncoming traffic. We also have many joggers and walkers who use our streets daily—not only the sidewalks. Residents, pets, or wildlife unpredictably enter into the street to avoid obstacles or uneven pavement. In addition, vehicles regularly back out of driveways with limited visibility, and cyclists, delivery vehicles, and service trucks are common sights throughout the day.

Speeding reduces reaction time and dramatically increases the severity of injuries if an accident occurs. At 25 mph, a driver has a much greater chance of stopping safely; at higher speeds, even a moment’s distraction can lead to tragic consequences.
Being a good citizen in our community means more than following rules—it means looking out for one another. Our community rules and covenants exist not only to promote general safety but also to enhance the quality of life for all residents. Slowing down shows respect for your neighbors, protects our most vulnerable residents, and helps preserve the calm, friendly environment we all value.
Please help keep our neighborhood safe. A few extra seconds on your drive can make a lifelong difference to someone else.
