9 Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is upon us! Are you trying to nail down your plans to celebrate with your special someone, your kids or others you care about? From simple to extravagant, here are a few ideas to help make Valentine's Day special and memorable.
-
Make your family's favorite dinner at home. Set the formal dining table with decorations and fresh flowers or outside on the patio by candlelight. Sweeten the experience with a delicious homemade or store-bought dessert, so long as it's one of your family's favorites. You could even do an ice cream bar with lots of toppings - the kids would love it!
-
Go out to eat at a special restaurant like an acclaimed steakhouse, sushi bar or romantic Italian ristorante. Follow up the dining experience with a nice stroll through an outdoor shopping area or well-lit waterfront attraction.
-
Have a romantic breakfast or lunch with your special someone during the day while your kids are at school, then have Valentine's Day Celebration No. 2 at home as a family.
-
Make Valentine’s Day cards for local nursing homes, hospitals, and children’s hospitals. This activity makes for a great community service project for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church groups, special interest groups.
-
Make a sweet craft for your special someone, such as a jar with reasons why you love them. List other craft ideas with pictures. You could make the same for your kids - they often appreciate homemade gifts the most!
-
Buy something special for your special someone, like a special piece of jewelry, a new purse, gift card for a spa day, or an experience like ax throwing, indoor skydiving, golf outing, escape room, or a weekend getaway.
-
Buy something practical for your special someone like a new set of brakes for their car, plants for their flowerbeds to replace those lost in the freeze earlier this year, a sturdy shoe rack for their closet, an organizational rack for power tools, a new pressure washer, or a detail service for their vehicle.
-
Make Valentine’s Day crafts with your kids, church group, special interest group, scouts, friends like hand-sewn stuffed animals, a painted craft, window art, or clay pottery.
- Show some love to your local heroes by dropping off donuts or valentines cookies to your nearby fire station, nonprofit administrative office, or your kids school.
Just remember, it doesn't matter how much money you spend. What matters is the thought you put into showing those you love much they mean to you. Even for those you don't know, spread joy with something as simple as a smile. Consider paying for a police officer's snack at a convenience store, or coffee for the person behind you in the drive-thru line at your favorite coffee shop. However you show love on Valentine's Day, say it from the heart.
