Discover the Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center: A Hub for Connection, Recreation and Relief in Cypress

July 23 2024

Have you ever explored the Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center in Cypress? Opening its doors in 2014, this community hub is named after the Houston-area philanthropist couple Richard and Meg Weekley, serving community members of all ages throughout the year. It is conveniently located near the Berry Center, at 8440 Greenhouse Rd, Cypress, TX 77433, in the northeast corner of Longenbaugh and Greenhouse Road.

Sprawled across 21,000 square feet of property, the Weekley Community Center serves as a focal point for community gatherings of all backgrounds and ages. With a spacious multipurpose room that can accommodate up to 500 people, along with several classrooms, a library, a hospitality room, and a variety of reservable spaces, the center caters to myriad community needs.

When disaster strikes, like the recent Hurricane Beryl, the Richard & Meg Weekley Community Center often serves as a vital source of relief for the community. Many water, food and supplies distribution events have taken place there in the aftermath of storms, and it has also served as a cooling and heating center during extended power outages. Apart from disasters, the center warmly welcomes the community for a wide range of opportunities that help neighbors connect and explore.

The center offers a robust range of year-round programming designed to cater to the diverse interests of the community. Encompassing fitness classes for the health-conscious, engaging children's educational events, community health events, book club meetings for the literary-minded, and numerous other activities, Weekley Community Center offers abundant opportunities for community members to engage, learn and socialize.

The center is open and accessible from Monday to Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., welcoming community members into its nurturing and enriching environment.

Moreover, the Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center shares its premises with the 190-acre Richard & Meg Weekley Park. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., the park provides the community with an array of recreational facilities, such as an outdoor gym, pickleball courts, a playground for children, a lake for fishing, picnic areas, and shade canopies. The park also features a 1.18-mile trail that spans the western portion of the park. Both the park and the community center are maintained by Harris County Precinct 4.

Richard & Meg Weekley Park is also generously dotted with trees, a gift from the Weekley's to Harris County. Richard Weekley, active in Houston real estate since 1971, co-founded Weekley Homes and Weekley Development Company, and serves on various boards including the Greater Houston Partnership and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Additionally, he is a prominent civic leader, co-founding Texans for Lawsuit Reform and the Quality of Life Coalition of Houston, and was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame in 2018.

Both the community center and the adjoining park serve as integral spaces for community engagement, recreation, and education, making a significant contribution to the Cypress community. To learn more, visit cp4.harriscountytx.gov
