Discover Summer Fun and Creativity at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts
This summer is all about fun at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, with a one-of-a-kind exhibition, “The Toy Canvas: Artists at Play.”
As the only Fine Arts museum in Harris County outside the city center of Houston, the Pearl operates completely through the generous donations of individuals, businesses and foundations from the greater Houston community, and is free to all. Located at 6815 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. Donations and membership support are appreciated and help continue the Pearl’s mission of art, education, and community.
2024 Summer Exhibition: “The Toy Canvas: Artists at Play”
This summer, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts has curated a one-of-a-kind exhibition that features toys as contemporary art. “The Toy Canvas: Artists at Play” features toys in photography, LEGO® brick builds, inflatables by FriendsWithYou, toys as sculpture, Madame Alexander dolls, and more.
These engaging artworks invite the viewer, young and old, to reimagine how we play and the toys and memories of our childhood. The exhibition explores the theme of play, with inventive works that address the kid in all of us.
“All of this art has not been seen in Houston before, so this is a unique opportunity for all ages,” said Courtney Gardner, director of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. “Visitors will be transported into a realm where nostalgia meets innovation. I hope you’ll join us as we rediscover the magic of play, and the infinite possibilities of our imagination.”
“The Toy Canvas: Artists at Play” includes an interactive play zone where visitors can discover their own creativity. The makerspace offers a variety of STEAM activities such as building challenges with LEGO® bricks and MAGNA-TILES®, a giant Lite Brite, digital drawing tools, and a literacy zone.
Located at 6815 Cypresswood Drive in Spring, TX, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The summer exhibition continues through August 31, 2024, and admission is free. For more information, visit pearlmfa.org.

2024 Summer Art Camps
Only a few spots remain for the Pearl Fincher Museum’s Summer Art Camps! Camps will be held each week through August 2, in all-day or half-day formats for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 12.
Among the camps still available are Art of the Ancients, where art and archeology intersect; Creatures; Anime & Manga; Toys in Art; and Intro to Traditional & Digital Design.
Campers explore new mediums, techniques, and principles of art through hands-on visual art lessons, instruction from guest artists, and time spent in the galleries of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Through it all, they learn the principles of art, artistic processes, art history and more.
