Working Hard for You: How Harris County MUD No. 81 is Enhancing Infrastructure to Support Residents
Harris County MUD No. 81 is actively engaged in improving infrastructure within the Cimarron community, as highlighted in their recent updates. Following the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, MUD 81 has collaborated with Harris County to implement essential drainage improvements and other construction projects aimed at enhancing the area’s resilience against future flooding.
Completed Drainage Improvements in Cimarron
The MUD has successfully completed drainage improvements in Cimarron Subdivision Sections 2, 3, 4, and 5 throughout 2024. After years of planning and over a year of construction, these upgrades aim to modernize the area’s aging drainage system. By reducing the risk of future flooding, MUD 81 is committed to providing a safer environment for all residents. The costs of these projects have been shared among Harris County, MUD 81, and other nearby districts benefiting from the enhancements.
Future Plans for Memorial Parkway
MUD 81 is also focused on improving drainage in the Memorial Parkway Subdivision. The engineering firm BGE has completed the fieldwork and is now finalizing designs for upsizing storm sewer lines, adding surface drains, and constructing new detention facilities to meet updated drainage criteria. An application has been submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to allow peak flows into Barker Reservoir, further enhancing flood management in the area.
Ongoing Construction Projects
In addition to drainage improvements, MUD 81 is undertaking several vital construction projects:
-
Generator Replacement at Water Plant No. 2: The installation of an emergency generator is now complete, ensuring reliable service during power outages.
-
Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation: Projects are underway for both Memorial Parkway Sections 3, 4, and 5, and Cimarron Subdivision Sections 1, 2, and 3. The MUD has contracted Champion Cleaning Specialists, Inc. for this work, which began on October 7, 2024.
-
Park York Force Main Replacement: The design phase is in progress for replacing an aging sanitary sewer force main along Park York, which is essential for continued service.
