A neighborhood service notice says older green WCA containers are emptied with regular household trash, even when residents place recyclable material inside them.

Recycling should instead go in the Texas Pride Disposal cart with the gray lid and be placed out for Thursday collection. Using the designated cart matters because material placed in an old WCA container will go to the trash truck rather than through the recycling collection process.

Why the Right Cart and Contents Matter

Choosing the gray-lid cart is only the first step. Texas Pride instructs customers to place accepted recyclables in the container dry, clean and loose, without enclosing them in plastic bags. Cardboard should be flattened, while recyclable plastic, metal and glass containers should be rinsed.

Correct sorting helps protect the usable material already in the cart. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency warns that items not accepted by a local program can contaminate the recycling stream, damage processing equipment or require additional sorting before being sent to a landfill.

Texas Pride accepts a range of paper and cardboard products, plastics numbered 1 through 7, metal cans, aluminum foil, empty aerosol cans, glass bottles and jars. Items listed as unacceptable include plastic bags and mailer bags, Styrofoam, wet or soiled paper, soiled pizza boxes, mirrors, ceramics, light bulbs, coat hangers, paper towels and bubble wrap.

Cypress Meadow Trash and Recycling Days

Regular household trash in Cypress Meadow is collected on Mondays and Thursdays. Recycling is collected once a week on Thursdays, when residents should use the Texas Pride gray-lid cart rather than an older green WCA container.
