Volunteering: Making an Impact on Your Community

April 16 2023

Celebrate the impact and power of volunteer services in our community during Volunteer Week, April 16-22. Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and volunteering in our communities. During this special week, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is highlighting their volunteer program and the many ways their volunteers have contributed to Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's mission to save lives.

Volunteers provide vital support and services to charitable and nonprofit organizations, such as Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, by offering their time, skills, and expertise. Through their efforts, we can better serve our community and save more lives. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center is grateful for their support and hard work.

"To all of our dedicated volunteers, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your time, passion, and commitment to saving lives," said Kevin Shipley, director of donor recruitment at Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. "Your selfless contributions make a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families in our community," Shipley said.

When you volunteer, you are giving back to your community and helping others in need. While volunteering isn't always easy, it has the power to change lives and make a positive impact on our world. Volunteering can offer you many benefits, including the opportunity to work with different people and make new friends, give back to your community or other charitable causes, and make a difference in the lives of others. Volunteering can also help you improve your health and well-being, build your leadership skills, find a purpose in life, expand your professional network, learn about different cultures and perspectives, and contribute to the community for years to come.

"The fact that I get to meet people and see the city is enjoyable," Rita Lietz, a Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center volunteer, said. "Volunteer with whatever your passions are because it'll be really enjoyable, and you'll stick with it," said Lietz. Rita Lietz volunteers to drive blood to hospitals and picks up blood samples so they can get tested. She won the "Volunteer of the Year" award for 2021.

If you are looking for a great volunteer opportunity, look no further. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center always needs volunteers to be a part of our team and our mission to save lives. Whether you are helping at one of our blood drives, speaking at an event, or driving valuable blood products to area hospitals, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has several roles available. Volunteering is a great and easy way to give back to your community, and you can start as early as 12 years of age through our program.

"We invite you to join us. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to make a long-term commitment, we have opportunities available for you. You can play an essential role in our mission to save lives. Sign up today and become part of our life-saving team," said Shipley.

Volunteer Week is a time to recognize the contributions that our volunteers make every day, and we encourage our community to discover their path to making a difference. Join us in celebrating all those committed to some of the most important causes, and talk to your friends, family, and community leaders about their volunteer experiences.
