Unleashing Creativity: The 2024 Juneteenth Spoken Word Competition Calls Fort Bend County Youth to Shine
Get set for a spectacular display of creativity, language, and freedom of speech. The Expose Excellence Youth Program (EEYP) has announced the 2024 Juneteenth Spoken Word Competition, sponsored by Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy, Fort Bend County Precinct 4.
EEYP stands on a mission to provide a safe environment for youth interaction, promoting the development of life skills, artistic expression, and positive self-expression while aiming to enhance the unique potentials of young minds right here in Fort Bend County.
Are you between the ages of 10 and 17? Do you or your child reside in Fort Bend County and are currently enrolled in a school within the county or being homeschooled? Then this competition is your chance to shine! EEYP invites eligible residents to submit an original poem that speaks about the importance of human dignity, paying homage to those who came before us and those who will be our successors.
The competition offers exciting prizes including a $1000 scholarship for the 1st place, $500 for 2nd, and $250 for 3rd. The 1st place winner will also have the honor of reciting their poem at the groundbreaking of the African-American Memorial at Bates-Allen Park on the morning of Juneteenth, Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
The contest closes on Saturday, May 25 at 11:59 pm. All entries must be submitted online using the form. Applicants should be ready to recite their poem in less than 3 minutes on June 19 if selected as a finalist.
