Tomball’s First Sam’s Club Moves Closer to Opening Along Grand Parkway

Tomball / Magnolia  /  Tomball / Magnolia
August 20 2026

For Tomball-area families who have watched the retail landscape around the Grand Parkway and Highway 249 steadily fill in, one of the corridor’s largest new projects is getting noticeably closer to opening day.

The new Sam’s Club at 13255 N. Grand Parkway W. in Tomball is nearing the end of construction and remains on track to open before the end of 2026, according to an Aug. 20 update. The roughly 166,000-square-foot membership warehouse will be the first Sam’s Club located in Tomball and will be joined by a dedicated fuel station nearby.

Just as telling: Sam’s Club has already begun marketing memberships locally ahead of the grand opening, another sign that the long-planned project is moving from construction site toward active retailer. The company has not yet announced a specific opening date.

For residents, the update matters beyond the arrival of another big-box store. The Tomball Sam’s Club adds another major retail anchor along a part of northwest Harris County where new restaurants, shops, housing and commercial development have followed population growth outward along the Grand Parkway.

Tomball Sam’s Club Has Been in the Works Since 2025

The project itself is not new.

Plans for the Tomball Sam’s Club and fuel station surfaced in 2025, when state filings detailed a 166,664-square-foot club at 13255 N. Grand Parkway W. and a separate Sam’s Club fuel station at 13609 Rocky Road, as reported previously by My Neighborhood News.

At the time, construction schedules pointed toward a 2026 completion. The latest update indicates the club remains headed toward opening this year, though the original summer timetable has shifted and an exact grand-opening date is still pending.

The fuel station is also a substantial investment on its own. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records list the Sam’s Club #4868 Fuel Station as a privately funded new-construction project with an estimated cost of $4.2 million.

Memberships Are Already Being Marketed in Tomball

This week, Sam’s Club began encouraging area shoppers to sign up for memberships before the Tomball location opens.

That early membership push gives prospective customers time to begin using Sam’s Club benefits at other locations while waiting for the new Tomball club to open. Sam’s Club currently offers two primary membership tiers, Club and Plus, with benefits that can include member-only fuel pricing, curbside pickup and other services depending on membership level.

Once open, the Tomball location is expected to bring the familiar warehouse-club mix of groceries, fresh foods, household essentials, electronics, appliances, Member’s Mark products and other bulk and everyday purchases closer to residents in Tomball and surrounding communities.

Sam’s Club, a division of Walmart Inc., traces its history to 1983 and now operates more than 600 clubs across the United States and Puerto Rico. The company has increasingly paired traditional warehouse shopping with services such as Scan & Go, Curbside Pickup and home delivery.

Tomball Store Part of a Much Bigger Sam’s Club Expansion

Tomball’s new club is arriving during one of the company’s largest periods of physical expansion in years.

Sam’s Club announced in 2025 that it planned to build a pipeline capable of opening about 15 new clubs annually, in addition to previously announced locations, while remodeling its approximately 600 existing clubs. The company has pointed to its newer Grapevine, Texas, club as a model for the next generation of stores.

Texas is playing a major role in that growth.

As of summer 2026, Sam’s Club had 82 Texas locations, with new clubs planned for Tomball, Baytown, Katy and Weslaco, which would bring the statewide footprint to 86 once those four locations open.

That expansion helps put Tomball’s project into perspective. The new warehouse is not simply an isolated store opening; it is part of a broader investment by Sam’s Club in rapidly growing Texas markets, including several communities around Greater Houston.

What the New Sam’s Club Means for the Grand Parkway and Highway 249 Area

For local residents, perhaps the most noticeable change will be convenience.

A Tomball Sam’s Club will give families and small-business owners another nearby option for warehouse groceries, household goods and bulk purchases without requiring trips to existing clubs elsewhere in northwest Houston. The accompanying fuel station will also add another member-only gas option near two of the area’s busiest transportation corridors.

The project also adds another major piece to the continuing transformation around Grand Parkway and Highway 249, where large retail centers and new commercial projects are increasingly following residential growth.

That makes this construction update meaningful even for residents who may never purchase a Sam’s Club membership. Large anchors can influence surrounding restaurant and retail development, traffic patterns and the way nearby commercial areas evolve over time.

What Happens Next for the Tomball Sam’s Club

Construction is approaching completion, memberships are now being actively promoted and Sam’s Club continues to say the Tomball club is expected to open before the end of 2026. For now, however, the biggest unanswered question remains the one many nearby residents are asking: When will the Tomball Sam’s Club actually open?

Sam’s Club has not yet released an official grand-opening date.

When the doors do open, the club will mark a first for Tomball and another significant addition to the growing Grand Parkway-Highway 249 retail corridor.
