Tomball Star Academy Students Take Part in Adulting Day 2023 “Chart Your Course to Success”

November 20 2023

In an effort to provide students a unique opportunity to cultivate essential life skills, explore potential career paths, and deepen their comprehension of civic responsibilities, Tomball Star Academy hosted its third annual Adulting Day on the Lone Star College-Tomball campus.

Spearheaded by TSA staff, and supported by LSC staff and instructors, this project supports Tomball ISD’s vision, “Tomball ISD students will lead in creating the future.”

“Adulting Day plays a vital role in nurturing the holistic growth of students,” said TSA teacher Kelly Riley. “Beyond academic knowledge, the event equips students by providing practical life skills and fostering personal development.”

In addition to learning opportunities, Tomball Star Academy students were introduced to community partners through Adulting Day.

“Interacting with community partners and professionals during Adulting Day creates networking opportunities for students,” Riley noted. “Building connections with professionals in different fields can open doors to internships, mentorships, and future career prospects.”

All Tomball Star Academy students and faculty took part in Adulting Day 2023 “Chart Your Course to Success”. Students had the opportunity to sign up for short 25-minute learning sessions designed and facilitated by community partners. They were able to engage in topics related to credit cards and crime stopper situational awareness to how to take a professional photo or basic car essentials like oil changes. They also had the opportunity to learn about self defense and healthy eating habits to gardening and patching a drywall.

Community partners involved in Adulting Day were Crime Stoppers, CrossFit Igneous, Harris County Public Library, Northwest Community Health, Giovanni Logrono Photography, Montgomery County Precinct 5 Constable Office, Keller Williams The Woodlands and Magnolia, Tomball Fire and Rescue, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and LSC Tomball Student Nurse Association.

In addition to building a strong community connection, Tomball ISD is also thankful for its support and partnership with Lone Star College-Tomball as it continues to offer endless opportunities for students.

“The partnership with LSC plays an essential role in the success of Adulting Day,” Riley said. “Not only do they provide space for the various activities, but they also teach some of the sessions which sets our college bound students up for success as they transition to classes at LSC-Tomball in their junior and senior years.”
