Tomball ISD Student Earns Third Consecutive Trip to National Spelling Bee as Houston Regional Winner
Ishika Varipilli, an eighth-grader from Creekside Park Junior High in Tomball ISD, has once again excelled by earning her third consecutive trip to the highly prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee. This achievement was brought home by her triumph at the 2024 Regional Spelling Bee organized by Houston Community College.
Varipilli did her school district, Tomball ISD, proud by representing them at the regional event. This representation was earned by her emerging as the winner in the District Spelling Bee competition. The word that crowned her as the regional champion was "scrannel", a word she triumphed over 79 other contestants to spell in the eight rounds of competition at the regional bee.
Her reward for this accomplishment includes an all-expenses-paid journey to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, taking place in National Harbor, Maryland. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, launched in 1925, is the largest and longest-standing educational program in the country. Its primary objective is to empower students to improve their spelling abilities, expand their vocabularies, and master correct English usage.
