The Source Offers Free Pregnancy Support to Women in Texas

February 14 2022

AUSTIN, Texas, 14th February 2022—The Source launches a new, statewide virtual care center offering a broad array of women’s pregnancy-related services and parenting support to Texas women completely free of charge.

Today, millions of Texas women lack access to the comprehensive, life-affirming support they need for healthy pregnancies and flourishing families. Women in rural areas often find it difficult to access these resources, as their communities lack the healthcare infrastructure or program offerings of larger cities.

Women in low-income situations are particularly disadvantaged, since most virtual options are often unaffordable and out of reach. The Source leadership desired to reach more women where they are, and the virtual care center is uniquely positioned to meet those critical needs statewide.

“The pandemic has greatly exposed deep-seated gaps in the healthcare system, especially for women who are vulnerable,” says Mary Whitehurts, executive director of The Source. “With the virtual care center, pregnant women and new moms now have a safe, high-quality, and free alternative in the face of limited care options. We’re proud to roll out this support across the entire state.”

The virtual care center allows the organization to provide care for more of the state’s most vulnerable women and families. Now, they can receive support via the center without the burden of financial, scheduling, and location limitations.

The center director and client advocates work to provide a number of critical services, such as material assistance, virtual pregnancy and parenting classes, professional counseling, and care coordination. Whether a woman needs material, emotional, or informational help, the virtual center staff is trained to address critical needs and ensure women can thrive.

The Source has 40 years of experience serving women in Texas, including three life-affirming clinics offering a range of services designed to support women in need of quality health and pregnancy care. The organization’s goal is to make high-quality healthcare as accessible as possible to Texas women in need at no cost. In addition to women’s healthcare, The Source offers non-medical services including counseling and mental health resources, education on health and relationships, and material assistance and parenting classes for new families.
