The Best Stop in Katy: Bringing Authentic Cajun Flavors to Texas

March 05 2024

The Best Stop, a widely loved brand known for its authentic Cajun food, has opened its first Texas franchise in Katy. Aiming to bring a slice of the Louisiana food culture to Texas, The Best Stop inaugurated its latest store on December 10, 2023.

The brand, originally established in Scott, Louisiana, in 1986, is fronted by the founding duo, Robert Cormier and Lawrence Menard, commonly known as Uncle Brud. The duo hustled tirelessly to lay the foundation of a family-focused business that has grown over the years, expanding to a wholesale manufacturing facility, eventually turning into a franchise with 11 sold locations. Every product and recipe used at each location, including the latest Katy store, has been perfected at the original location so customers can rest assured knowing they are receiving authentic Cajun food, just like they would find in Louisiana.

The Katy location is owned by long-time friends Robbie Abrusley and John Mendell, University of Louisiana alums who share a deep-rooted connection to Louisiana. With Mendell's entrepreneurial spirit and Abrusley's affiliation with the oil and gas industry, they're bringing a piece of their beloved home state to Texas. Nicholas Vroulis, a Katy local with over ten years of community connection, manages the store. Vroulis lives in Cinco Ranch with his wife and daughter.

Since its founding, The Best Stop has always been about high-quality offerings and an unparalleled customer experience. "It's an honor to be the first franchise location in Texas. We value the faith, family, and food the original Best Stop in Scott inspires and we're excited to share those values with the people of Katy," states the management of the franchise.

Located at 806 Katy Fort Bend Road, The Best Stop in Katy offers a range of popular items including different types of boudin - smoked, original, and mild - as well as regular and pepper jack cheese-stuffed boudin balls. The menu also features high-end beef, pork, chicken, and a variety of Cajun grocery products. A crowd favorite is the chicken and pork cracklins, with over 100 pounds of chicken cracklins sold daily.

The Katy store welcomes dine-in customers from Monday through Sunday. The diverse menu includes specialty hamburgers, crab burgers, chicken burgers, fried pork chops, po-boys, hot dogs, and much more. The store is also planning to host special events and foster partnerships with local organizations and initiatives, with a recent sponsorship for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Bar-B-Que Contest.
