Support Katy Scouts and Show Your Patriotism: Troop 230’s American Flag Program Open for Subscriptions

June 19 2025

In Memorial Parkway, a simple gesture of patriotism is also a way to invest in the next generation of leaders. Troop 230 of the Scouting America is now accepting subscriptions and renewals for its 2025 American Flag Program—a long-standing community tradition that brings color, pride, and unity to local neighborhoods on key national holidays.

The Troop 230 Flag Program isn’t just about decorating front lawns. It’s a hands-on way for local scouts to serve the Katy community while raising critical funds for activities, badges, and leadership development. The program provides U.S. flags to be placed at subscribers' homes on six designated holidays throughout the year:

  • Presidents Day – February 17
  • Memorial Day – May 26
  • Flag Day – June 14
  • Independence Day – July 4
  • Labor Day through September 11 – September 1
  • Veterans Day – November 11

Each flag display is coordinated by a Scout or volunteer from Troop 230 who lives closest to the subscriber, ensuring timely setup and personal connection. Participation in the program is available as a full-year plan ($42) or prorated based on the time of sign-up, with each holiday costing $7. The donation is tax-deductible and directly benefits the troop’s activities.

To enroll, residents have several convenient options. You can:

  • Reach out directly to a neighborhood Boy Scout with Troop 230
  • Email your request to the Flag Program Coordinator at t230flag@gmail.com
  • Download, complete, and scan the 2025 Flag Commitment Form, then email it to the same address

The form requests basic information including your name, address, number of flags, and payment method. Payments can be made by cash or check made out to Troop 230.

Mr. Ray Garcia, the Flag Program Coordinator, ensures each participating household is matched with a scout from the area. According to the program guidelines, homeowners are responsible for noting any sprinkler or utility systems that could be affected, and for maintaining the flag sleeve flush with the ground to prevent lawn equipment damage.

“Thank you for supporting our troop and helping us fill our streets with American flags for love of our country and in dedication to the ideals of Scouting,” the commitment form reads—a sentiment echoed by many who view the flag program as both meaningful and memorable.

Whether you’re renewing or joining for the first time, Troop 230’s American Flag Program offers residents of Memorial Parkway a chance to celebrate American values, build community bonds, and support youth leadership—one flag at a time.
