Southern Oak Brewing to Open in Old Town Tomball, Bringing New Brewery and Restaurant Concept to Former Fire Ant Brewpub Site

A familiar gathering place in Old Town Tomball is preparing for its next chapter.

Southern Oak Brewing has announced plans to open in fall 2026 at 308 Market St., the former home of Fire Ant Brewpub, signaling the return of a brewery-focused destination to one of downtown Tomball's most recognizable hospitality spaces.

While many details remain under wraps, the new concept has already generated excitement among local residents who have watched the building sit vacant since Fire Ant Brewpub closed in May after eight years serving craft beer, comfort food and community gatherings in the heart of Old Town Tomball.

Describing itself as a place "where timeless Texas hospitality meets elevated craft beer culture," Southern Oak Brewing says it will operate as both a brewery and restaurant focused on craftsmanship, tradition and community connection.

"Rooted in tradition and crafted for community" has become the centerpiece of the company's early messaging as it begins sharing its vision with future customers.

A New Chapter for a Landmark Old Town Tomball Location

The announcement is particularly significant for longtime Tomball residents because of the location itself.

When Fire Ant Brewpub closed earlier this year, many wondered what would become of the popular Market Street property near the Depot entertainment district. The brewpub had become a fixture of Old Town Tomball since opening in 2018, helping establish downtown as a destination for dining, live entertainment and craft beverages.

As My Neighborhood News previously reported, Fire Ant's closure marked the end of an era for many residents who celebrated birthdays, gathered with friends and welcomed out-of-town visitors at the locally owned establishment.

Now, Southern Oak Brewing appears poised to build upon that legacy while creating its own identity within the community.

The company has shared only limited details publicly, but promotional materials suggest guests can expect small-batch brewing, a restaurant component and an emphasis on creating a welcoming gathering place for families, friends and visitors exploring historic downtown Tomball.

"We're planting the seeds of something special," the company stated in its initial announcement.

Local Connections Fuel Community Interest

So far, Southern Oak Brewing has not publicly announced ownership details.

However, local sources have indicated the project may involve a collaboration between Old Town Tomball restaurant Graze and Paradigm Brewing Company. Neither business has publicly confirmed that information as of publication.

The speculation has attracted attention because both brands already have strong connections to the local hospitality and craft beverage industries.

Graze, located just a few blocks away at 208 N. Elm St., opened in January 2022 under the ownership of Doug and Tatia George. The restaurant quickly established itself as a destination for elevated dining in downtown Tomball, offering brunch, fresh seafood, craft cocktails and an extensive beverage program.

The Georges entered the restaurant business after years of hospitality experience and a belief that Tomball residents deserved more upscale dining options closer to home rather than traveling to The Woodlands or Houston.

Over the years, they have discussed opportunities to expand into additional concepts, including ideas with a stronger focus on draft beverages.

Meanwhile, Paradigm Brewing Company has built a reputation within the Texas craft beer industry through its focus on traditional brewing methods, innovative techniques and community-centered experiences.

Paradigm's leadership team brings decades of experience spanning brewing, beverage distribution, sales and marketing. The company has emphasized quality ingredients, family-friendly environments and building community through craft beer culture.

If the reported collaboration proves accurate, Southern Oak Brewing could represent a unique combination of restaurant expertise and brewing experience rooted in businesses already familiar to many area residents.

Why This Matters for Old Town Tomball

The opening comes as Old Town Tomball continues evolving into one of northwest Harris County's most active entertainment and dining districts.

In recent years, the historic downtown area has attracted new restaurants, retailers, festivals and tourism activity while maintaining the small-town character that residents value.

The return of a brewery and restaurant concept to the former Fire Ant property helps preserve a use that many residents viewed as an important part of downtown's identity.

For local businesses, additional dining and entertainment destinations can help increase foot traffic throughout Old Town. For residents, it means another locally focused gathering place where friends and families can connect close to home.

The concept's emphasis on community also aligns with the broader culture that has helped make Tomball one of the region's most popular destinations for local events, live music, shopping and dining.

What Happens Next

Southern Oak Brewing has indicated that more details will be released in the coming weeks and months as preparations continue ahead of its planned fall 2026 opening.

Questions remain about the brewery's beer lineup, restaurant menu, renovations to the property and the team behind the project.

For now, the company is encouraging residents to follow along as the concept takes shape.

One thing is already clear: just a few months after Fire Ant Brewpub poured its final pint, the taps are preparing to flow once again at 308 Market St.

For many Tomball residents, that's welcome news as another chapter begins in the continuing evolution of Old Town Tomball.
