Save the Date: Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Fall Plant Sale Returns Oct. 10 for The Points Gardeners

For residents ready to refresh a backyard vegetable garden, add fresh herbs to the patio or simply see what grows well in Fort Bend County, an October tradition is worth putting on the calendar now.

The Fort Bend County Master Gardeners Fall Vegetable & Herb Plant Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bud O’Shieles Community Center, 1330 Band Road in Rosenberg. For gardeners in The Points, the sale offers an opportunity to shop for plants selected specifically with the local growing environment in mind.

And because popular varieties can go quickly, organizers recommend arriving early for the best selection.

Fall Vegetables and Herbs Selected for Fort Bend County

What sets this plant sale apart from a typical trip to the garden center is the emphasis on varieties suited to local conditions.

According to the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners, the vegetable and herb plants offered at the sale are varieties either recommended for Fort Bend County by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service or successfully grown by Master Gardener volunteers in their own home gardens.

That local perspective can be especially helpful for homeowners trying to decide what to plant in a Fort Bend County fall vegetable garden, where timing, heat, soil conditions and plant selection can make a noticeable difference.

The complete list of vegetables and herbs planned for the 2026 Fall Sale is expected to be posted in mid-September, giving The Points residents time to make a shopping list before sale day.

Who Are the Fort Bend County Master Gardeners?

The plant sale is also a chance to connect with an organization that spends much of the year helping local residents become more confident gardeners.

Fort Bend County Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who assist Texas A&M AgriLife Extension in Fort Bend County by sharing research-based horticultural information with the public. Their work is designed to help residents successfully create and maintain home gardens and landscapes using practices appropriate for the region.

Their community involvement extends well beyond plant sales. Master Gardener volunteers help maintain demonstration gardens, respond to gardening questions, give educational presentations, support community and youth gardening programs, and offer classes on topics ranging from edible gardening to home landscaping.

Becoming a Texas Master Gardener also requires a commitment to education and service. Fort Bend County participants receive comprehensive horticultural training through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and must complete volunteer service requirements. Certified Master Gardeners continue their education and volunteer work each year to maintain certification.

For residents who regularly find themselves answering neighbors' gardening questions—or who simply want to learn more while giving back—the program offers a structured way to turn that interest into community service.

Plant Purchases Help Support Local Gardening Education

There is another community benefit tied to the Fall Vegetable & Herb Plant Sale.

According to the organization, all proceeds from the sale support the mission of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Fort Bend County and Fort Bend County Master Gardener educational programs. The funds are used to provide research-based horticultural education for residents throughout the year and are not used to pay Master Gardener volunteers or for activities unrelated to that mission.

That means a tray of fall vegetables or a few new herb plants can ultimately help support gardening education elsewhere in the county as well.

For The Points homeowners thinking about growing lettuce, herbs, vegetables or other cool-season crops this fall, Oct. 10 is a date worth saving.
