A small French Bulldog with a knight’s heart, a missing stuffed penguin and a pair of unforgettable pantaloons are coming to Brookshire this fall.

Local families are invited to Brookshire Pattison Public Library, located at 3815 6th St. in Brookshire, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, for a special meet-the-author event with Casey Hughes, author of the newly released children’s picture book The Adventures of Sir Finn and His Fabulous Pantaloons. Hughes is expected to read from the book, and families will also have an opportunity to meet Sir Finn, the French Bulldog who inspired the story.

For parents looking for children’s events near Brookshire, family activities in Waller County or a storytime that offers something beyond the usual library visit, the event brings together books, imagination and a real-life canine character children can connect with.

A Mystery, a French Bulldog Knight and One Very Important Penguin

Published in 2026, The Adventures of Sir Finn and His Fabulous Pantaloons follows Sir Finn after his beloved stuffed penguin, Lord Puffington, mysteriously disappears.

Rather than leave the mystery unsolved, the French Bulldog knight sets out with his loyal brother, Rocky, following clues and facing unexpected surprises as the pair try to bring Lord Puffington home.

The 40-page picture book combines humor and adventure with themes of courage, friendship, kindness, teamwork and the bond between siblings. It is aimed primarily at children ages 3 to 8 and is designed as a read-aloud story for families, young dog lovers and children who enjoy playful mysteries.

At its heart, the story takes a familiar childhood worry — losing something deeply loved — and turns it into an adventure about facing uncertainty alongside someone trusted.

Meet Author Casey Hughes and the Inspiration Behind Sir Finn

Hughes is the author behind the newly published Sir Finn story, which was released in both paperback and hardcover editions in 2026. The book’s official listing describes Hughes’ story as one that brings together imagination, humor, kindness and friendship while celebrating bravery and teamwork.

The Oct. 1 Brookshire appearance gives young readers a chance to experience that story in a more personal way. Instead of simply meeting the person whose name appears on the cover, children can hear the book read aloud and meet the dog connected to its central character.

That combination can make an author visit especially memorable for beginning readers. Books become a little less abstract when children can see the person who created the story — and, in this case, meet the four-legged inspiration standing beside her.

Brookshire Library Event Details for Families

The Casey Hughes meet-the-author event will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at Brookshire Pattison Public Library, 3815 6th St., Brookshire, TX 77423.

The program will feature Hughes and a reading of her new book, with Sir Finn also scheduled to attend.

Families seeking additional information may contact 281-375-5550.

For Brookshire-area parents, grandparents and caregivers, the gathering offers a simple mid-morning outing centered on reading, storytelling and the kind of character children may continue talking about long after storytime ends.

And for young readers who have ever gone searching for a favorite toy of their own, Sir Finn’s quest to find Lord Puffington may feel surprisingly familiar.
